I've obviously got no chance of beating you with obscure types so I'll try a different approach. With all these appendages, what's this Lincoln being used for?

Its a ice accretion test unit -

The covered item appears to be a wing section - the frame directly ahead is a spray frame - Thought it might be Napiers Lincoln again.

However it may be the one based at Luton for many years which would make the wing section from either a Provost or Jet Provost

Leif

(Sorry guys Its just that Im up and working at this time in the morning and so, probably the first to see Petes teasers.....I'll quit and let others have a
bash) :doho:

Well done - again - Leif. I should know better than to post them whilst you're still awake! :)

You're right, it is the Napier Lincoln - I tried to make it more difficult by cloning out the serial - what a waste of time that was! :-( . Here is the original photo:

I think I'll go back to just showing the photos so, Leif, here's the last one I was going to use - perhaps you'd like to tell eveyone what this is?

Sorry Pete - Yes I know what it is - But I'll leave it to others - BTW the Napier Lincoln - you show above was based at Luton but isnt the famous one (SX973) which was used extensive test for the Nomad - SX973 actually flew in many configurations including as a twin engined (twin Nomads) and with a Nomad
fitted in the nose - The other aircraft that lived at Napiers flight test unit at Luton was the second prototype Shackleton which was fitted with Nomads also.
and as an aside does anyone know what Napier and the colour "British Racing Green" have in common.

Guess which airport I grew up on???

That would be the Hafner Rotachute.

The Lincoln shot is interesting, I hadn't seen photos of ice testing ones before

Well done James. I nearly put this photo in with the helicopter set but I didn't think it quite qualified. ;-)

Not the Bentley Napier is it Leif?

Dr Benjafield and the Le Mans win?

Correct Robin

Legend has it that Napier painted the beastie that odd shade of green and after the BNs victories it was adopted as the
racing colours of Great Britain.
