they were fitted with some form of defence items. but in reality they were realy next to near useless. the best defence was the chaff rockets, the 20mm guns were ok in the second world war. when these photo's were taken the rfa gold rover was the only sea going vessel available to defend the 200 mile exclusion zone. the rn ship was yellow flagged, the other rfa was in harbour and the rn patrol ship was tied up with a bent prop shaft. :shock:
