For a rare couple of hours the sun shone in the Midlands and it was quite warm (dont worry its clouded over now and I dare say it'll rain tonight), so I decided to pay another visit to MAM at Coventry Airport:

Shar Mk2 apparently being reconstructed in this hangar

Raspberry ripple flavour Hunter

Something Rick must be familiar with by now!

Image
One of two Lightnings on site

Image
Interesting to see whats actually inside a radome, which incidentally seemed to be made from wood!

Image
Here you can see the bevel gears which allow the radar to pivot left and right

Image
Another nice shiny Hunter

Image
And a similarly smart Sea Hawk

One for Leif...

This poor thing was so ugly it flew because the earth repelled it

And another for Leif

One of a number of Tom's machines I saw moving about today - sorry for the poor quality, there were two fences inbetween myself and the Rapide!

Nice shots Toby, that really is a great museum, the people are very helpful too. That is one of the few things I miss being in Spain, good aviation museums!!!

Toby,

In which bit of the hangar were they working on the SHAR? When I was there last, maybe 2 months ago, there wasn't space for a 1/48 SHAR let alone 1/1 scale one!

Its the green hangar right down the other end of site (north/east end). Previously they had one or two things that they were working on in there including a Vampire and a rather unusual small helicopter I think.

Ah right, that explains it. Could that 'small helicopter' be a Kaman Huskie? The USAF air crash rescue chopper they had based at most USAF bases in the '70s/'80s. I ask because I was at the Museum when they had one delivered, apparently it was for FREE too! It wasn't in all that good shape, broken canopy, dings and dents all over it, but all the bits were there.

Nice to see that SHAR in good shape though, but it would look better, and make more sense, flying off the deck of the Invincible!

That could be. I dont know much about Helicopters and I dont remember recognising what it was. I was somewhat perplexed as to what had happend to all the various craft that were in there previously. It looks as if they have had a tidy up of the stuff around hte side of hangar as theres only the remains of the Phantom and most parts ofa twin seat vampire under a tarpaulin.
