Thanks for that James
I qualify for the Veterans badge though am (tbh) embarrassed to ask for one as I didn't go 'Down South'. OK.. I was in the Gulf during the Iran/Iraq war in both bars and minefields but the impact wasn't the same if you get my drift. Unfortunately.. I'm off up to the Midlands to take my folks to a funeral tomorrow so won't be taking part in any 'organised' activities
Tks for the HU anyway

Well, let me say thanks from this side of the pond to those who've served on that side of the pond. We celebrate our Veteran's Day on November 11th (Armistice Day) so we have a little longer before our events to celebrate our servicemen comes around, but I hope that most people are thanking servicemen every day for putting their lives on the line to keep the rest of us free.

I was in London today at a service club and during my journey there and home I saw only one other person wearing a Veterans Badge. I know of only one local event by the Royal British Legion and that was held last weekend.
We have no bases nearby and as there are so few citizens serving in the UK armed forces today compared to the total population there appears to be very little public interest in the armed services.
The two wars we are now fighting, and the UN and NATO duties being carried out all over the world are, for most people, a topic confined to the TV set and of less importance to them than the latest edition of their favourite soap opera. My belief is that most of the public have absolutely no interest in those who are serving the country because today very few have any connection whatsoever to the armed services.
It was very heartening to me to see 9,000 veterans on parade at the Falklands Parade on Horse Guards Parade last Sunday. A well organised and fitting tribute.
Did anyone notice how few people lined the Mall to see that parade march down to Buckingham Palace?
Kipling certainly got it right!!
