For those interested, I've redone my original FS article about the history of AIR NEW ZEALAND DC8 operations. More information and completly reillustrated .... and much improved.

You can read all about it here :-

In 1972 I remember boarding one at Kai Tak with a sense of relief. On the 1st leg from Heathrow to Auckland in a BA 747, our 16mth old son could only be accommodated in a disposable cardboard box strapped to the table! Contrast that with the pull-down bulkhead cot on the DC 8.

I whole-heartedly agree with you.

In fact there's nothing I'd like to see more.

The idea has already been mooted by someone in Dunedin .... as reported/published per a "New Zealand Aviation" magazine article either late last year or earlier this year.

Unfortunately though .... for all our "Kiwi Individualism" we can't really compare ourselves with the Australian's.

They're more affluent than we are are .... and when one considers what they've achieved by bringing home both a SUPER CONSTELLATION, and that B707-138 too, it's seems they're more motivated and much better organised than we are .... and they obviously value their heritage more than we do too.

However .... I guess the Australian projects began with someone promoting/advancing the idea .... just like this .... sowing the seed.

The shear logistics/cost involved in getting the old DC8 back home (either one piece or even dismantled) would be phenominal .... but .... not altogether impossible either .... if managed by the right, dedicvated, motivated, caring people.

I wish .... I Wish .... and I WISH !
