FS9 Problems-Won't Start...

I was recently having CTD Problems in FS, but I found I had Left an objects.dp folder in the directory from when I installed an ALPHA freeware Phantom. I deleted this, but I have since had the problem of FS refusing to start, and It just sits at the splash screen. I tried a trick someone on the alphasim forums after i had a non start problem- renaming the fs9.cfg and restarting, but that hasn't worked. any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Only just seen this Jon but remaking the cfg would have been my suggestion too I'm afraid. I can't see an old dp profile causing the prob as many of the old Alpha models had them as standard. I recently dragged an old FS2002 Meatbox over, warts and all and have had no prob.
Sri I can't be of more help mate

I thought of the re-making of the .cfg too but the trouble is that FS9 has to start to rebuild it....doesn't it?
That being the case if anyone has a "basic" FS9 installation (without the zillions of addons most of us here have.. ) perhaps sending a copy of their .cfg may do the trick. Not being the expert on these matters...just my 2 pennorth...

Try deleting (after backing up) all of your default flights and weather profiles, this can sometimes help.

Jon,
Deleting the FS9.cfg file completely, and it's backup copy named fs9.cfg.txt does the trick most times. FS9 then rebuilds the .cfg file but you're left with the default settings for everything. Not too much of a chore to set it up again though.
When I do a re-install I always make a copy of the whole default installation in a separate partition, and then if anything goes TU you have a pristine, unused copy to use as a reference.

Jon,
I've had similar problems after saving a flight containing a particular aircraft. Try loading up direct from a saved flight (.flt file) with a default aircraft or a known "good" one from the "Flight Simulator" folder within your "My Documents" folder. If you've got the original Meigs saved flight, use that .
This method usually works for me and often the "bad" saved flight can then be loaded.

Sounds like it's looking for a default aircraft that doesn't exist or is not installed properly.
Try never to change the default aircraft from one of the MS supplied ones and make sure you never delete it!

I have DM's VC10 as my default aircraft, and hav never had any problems, but you have to know what you're doing, otherwise you are better off leaving the default as it is, yes.
