There was a cut down Bristol Britannia that could be driven around the airfield on it's remaining two engines..........I don't know if it did that very often

You may have read about it

You may have heard about it

You may not have believed it :k:

Its Luton Rob - post 1974 I would guess - I guess the availability of
RAF airframes made it an attractive way to do engine runs on Proteus
as opposed to having an engine test rig - Im going to hazard a guess and
say it was something Airline Engineering cobbled up as they were the
major vendor for Britannia maintenance in the twilight of its life.
as I said it was after my time at Luton because I wouldnt have missed that

LOL

Hi Leif

The Airline Engineering outfit you mentioned .was that anything to do with Monarch?

Monarch became the main Brit people after Eagle and even bought a couple of Brits for resale after they had finished operating the type themselves.

It seemed they were involved with the type until it faded from the scene.

I don't know for sure but it was said that Monarch cleared Eagle maintenance out.....or at least got a whole load of bit's and bobs so they could support their own operations.

That'd be a treat down the motorway though roundabouts and around town might be a bit prohibitive :poke:

Yes Garry AEL was Monarchs mainteance group - they serviced amongst others Cubanas Britannias that were often seen in Luton in the late 60s and early 70s - The giveway is the Monarch tug painted up in the same sort of paint as Monarchs 720s and 1-11 500s were

And Now - between this and the Navylark Ive really blown my age
