yes i saw that on a tornado once, not swept as far back that so yes it can happen, the wing swept back though was in a much worse state than that f14

the tornado landed at very high speed busting the approach end Rag before getting caught up in the far end rag (like a wire on a carrier)

the crews comment was along the lines of "christ i would have banged out had i seen that" (it was a night sortie). the right wing was swept a bit further forward than they usually go and the left wing a long way further back than they usually go. all the leading edge missing on the left side and most of the flaps missing on the left side, both inboard and out board pylons missing, left engine out. it was about as asymetric as you can get.

its a testament to the fly by wire system that the only control issue was the landing speed.

the other tornado involved did prove that you cant fly without the tail fin for long, fly by wire still needed the now non existant rudder attached to the now non existant fin, order two martin baker ties please

with regards to the alpha model, the engine suck in doors would not be open with the engine shut down and the blanks in, and very unlikely in forward flight other than taxi and the initial take off roll. the air brakes look wrong because they are not the flat plates they look in that screen shot.

indeed, i told AS about the aux air doors before release, and gave them the EXACT operation, so they have no excuse. they are as all aux air doors are, ala jag, harrier etc. they suppliment air intake during no or low speeds. the tonka ones will remain in varying degrees of open during take off roll, and will close fully around 180knts
