Not just Vanguards, but Herralds & 1-11's ect. Some of it is behind glass but you can still hear some noise.
Atm its all on VHS, and since my graphics card is non vivo Ill have to figure a way to capture it to the computer.

Yeh I think so, I dont know the exact date, only I was either not born or very small at the time
I remember my dad telling me once that he was waiting for it to come in one day but a DC-8 turned up instead
We dont even get one of those either now.

Jonesey, I bet Avion Video would be interested in that footage for making new DVD's. It always says at the end of their programmes about looking for more old film. They restore worn out film too!
As far as I can determine, ALL four engines should sound the same. No.3 had it's generator replaced some time ago but it has since failed and the TRU removed. This could be the reason for it's different noise though there could be other reasons too. IF that noise is gearbox noise, it does not bode well  That said.. I've posted the links to EP's team leader and he can't hear it Only time will tell
So.. there you have it. No good reason why no.3 whines like it does and as far as those in the know are concerned, it shouldn't!
Chris.. good point about Jonesey's footage. Avion would bite his arm off for something like that. They wouldn't be able to dub wrong engine sounds onto it either!!
Having watched 'Vickers Props Farewell', you can hear that it is only engine 3 that made this noise, and when EP is taxiing in at Coventry (on that DVD) 2 and 3 are shut down and the whine is gone.
So I don't think we need worry that there's something wrong with EP's engine now, all Vanguards must have had it. (It's on G-APES aswell.) Could it be some sort of APU? Or it could be coming from the Jet pipe.
(Sorry to whine on about this.... mind you, I do have a good ear for sound.)
