A bit short on time for a fuller reply Nigel but ignore the overlays you don't need them. All you need is the tile you built. This should have the photo scenery, open source mapping and mesh. If you have Europe X the n this should be above your new scenery tile.
Thanks Chris, have found another post full of instructions so going to try that out now..........Will let you know how I get on.

Nigel.

Becoming increasingly frustrated over the use of Ortho4XP. No matter which way I try to build a tile it just will not do it.
Firstly tried batch build with build masks and build overlays checked but stops at: Done. The zip archive will now be extracted in the Elevation_Data.Dir
In the DOS Directory it reads FileNotFoundError [Errno 2] No such file or directory ..\\tmp\\N30.zip.
Equally when trying to build just one tile for Lincolnshire I go through:
Step 1 Build Vector Data; that works
Step 2 build base mesh that works
Step 2.5 Build masks it then says you must first construct the mesh.
Can anyone help as I am really becoming frustrated at not being able to do this!
Regards
Nigel.

Well I feel like a right plonker now
All the time I was moaning about the weather engine I had the solution on my drive. I have FS Global Real Weather on my PC for use with FSX, and today discovered that my older version works very nicely with X-Plane. The new 64 bit version is the future according to the author......but the 32 bit version still works and gives much better weather than the built-in engine. Just had a lovely flight in my shiny new 727 (it was on sale over the weekend

) with weather that matched what my Metar decoder said was happening in Fortaleza and Natal.
Sorry Nigel, I can't help with the Ortho business, but I will be very interested in how you get on. I'm happy with my HD mesh for now, but Ortho is probably in the future at some point, once I can justify a new multi-terabyte drive. We work with industrial grade HDs which are rejected with more than 8 bad blocks by our video storage servers, so I might see if I can talk the boss into letting me have a rejected 4TB one for a reasonable price. I could fit a lot of Ortho on that

Hi Nigel, here's how I do it...
1. On the main Ortho page select your photo scenery provider and zoom level, e.g. BI and 17 for land (Base source) and BI 14 for sea (Sea source).
2. On the same page in the build tile section select "Use masks for inland" and deselect "Check against white textures" and "Verbose output".
That's it for that page.
3. On the tiles collection page select the one or more tiles you wish to create.
4. On the same tiles collection page select "build masks" only. Do not make any other selections.
5. Finally click on batch build.
Return to the main Ortho page to watch the progress of your tile build.
Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, tried as per your instructions though still having problems, the programme just stops and in the DOS Box it still reads:
Where it writes the progress of the files and where the DOS error comes up it reads from Step 2 Building Mesh for Tile +53-001 :
Loading of elevation data.
No elevation file found, I download it from viewfinderpanorama (J. do Ferrant)
i) Done. The zip archive will now be extracted in the Elevation_data dir.
i) Done. The zip archive will now be extracted in the Elevation_data dir.
Then nothing happens, that is when I went to the DOS Screen and saw the message:
FileNotFoundError [Errno 2] No such file or directory ..\\tmp\\N30.zip.
I incidentally had a look in the Ortho4XP folder and did not see a folder named Elevation_data, so put one in but still came back with the above messages.
I even tried an earlier version of Orth4XP and that also gives me problems and will not load certain files. Just don't understand why this does not work when others seem to have no problems.
Maybe as a last resort you could give me a link to where you downloaded Ortho4XP and see if that link is any better Chris, many thanks on advance.
Sorry Nigel, I can't help with the Ortho business, but I will be very interested in how you get on.
I'm not!!

still looking for reasons why this is not working but pleased to hear that you have now found a solution to your weather problems and wish you many enjoyable flights.
Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel, what version of Ortho are you using? Mine is 1.20. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I can reproduce your problem. I take it you're having no problems downloading the OSM data (step 1)?

Hi Chris, got it working.

I found out from putting up a question in the Avsim Forum and Glenn pointed me to the Elevation Data Files which I downloaded for UK and put them into a folder in Ortho4XP. As it did not have this folder in Ortho I just created one and downloaded the areas I wanted (all of UK and Ireland) then ran Ortho as per your instructions and after a while the whole process ended in success.
Link to Elevation Data just in case anyone else needs this.
http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/Cove ... s_org3.htm
just flew from RAF Waddington flew across to Washingborough (where I live) then across Lincoln to Scampton.
The scenery is brilliant so now the question is.......do I stay where I am with it or go to True Earth when it comes out? Something I am going to have to juggle with though one question you might be able to answer is, if I copy my X-Plane 11 Folder onto my 2nd drive will it work? or would I have to download a 2nd copy? The purpose for this is that I could fly True Earth on the copy and fly with Ortho on my C: drive. Would this be possible just to copy the X-Plane Folder across to my 2nd Drive?
One point that I have noticed is that there are no traffic running along the roads, on one video I watched to enable this you can build overlays so that traffic is seen moving along the roads, have you done this?
All I can say is that flying with Ortho Scenery has made a huge difference to flying, now thoroughly enjoying VFR and retracing my old flights in the Beagle Pup that I used to do with John Harris from Wickenby Airfield.
Very many thanks for your help as at my age it seems the old grey cells are not what they used to be.
Regards
Nigel.
