Hi Chaps,

something that might be worth trying is to use the old UIAutomationCore.dll fix. I now have working Nav and formation lights on DG's Hunters and I also managed to catch up with and almost land on Ark Royal

Whats that, Ben ? I'm trying to get Plane Design's Lancastrian to work in P3D V2, and it might sort things out for me.

Hi Paul,

its an old fix for some crashes in FSX in later versions of Vista, Win7 and Win8 etc. Basically all you have to do is copy the earlier version of the UIAutomationCore.dll into the FSX root directory. This would make FSX use this older version rather than the OS version which was newer. I'll upload it when i get the pc on later. Whatever you do though DON'T register this version of the dll. ;)

In an effort to save time, I copied the add-on scenery entries from my P3D v1.4 scenery.cfg and pasted them into my vP3D 2 scenery.cfg (making sure that the numbers ran sequentially and there were no gaps). All seemed to be well - there were no warning/error messages on start-up and all layers showed correctly in P3D v2's scenery library - but all is not well as you can see from the v1.4 and v2 screenshots below.

Apart from the slight difference in location and zoom, there are 2 (3 if you count the odd variation in the trees) major differences. First, the ORP and taxiway textures are missing from v2. I think the fix for this was posted by DaveB a couple of pages back - I'll dig out my editor (ADE, I think but it's so long since I used it) later and, if Trev doesn't mind me playing with his software, see if I can fix it.

More importantly, the static Lightnings are missing and they're not alone! For example, all the Portsmouth Dockyard scenery very kindly supplied by Dave is there including the ships but Arundel Castle - an important visual feature on left basefor 25 - is not. Gosport is there but the same author's Portsmouth Highrise is not so something has changed between 1.4 and 2 - I wonder what?

Make sure you get the latest version of ADE Pete for P3d2 support.

Have you got the scenery complexity levels the same in both sims?

Hi chaps,

If you want to try the UIAutomationCore fix, copy the file from this zip to the main P3D2 folder. DO NOT REGISTER IT. It may not make any difference at all, but there is no harm trying.

The static Lightning is possibly an FS8 model which won't display in V2. I had the same problem with USS Stennis until I converted it to FSX format using ModelConverterX.

The missing taxiway textures are due to ADE not setting the texture flags correctly. ADE is still not quite correct but should be fixed today.

Something else to consider chaps. I have an i5 2500k cpu. As you know, P3D2 will not use the first core, theory being it leaves it free for other stuff. I've never found that to work particularly well on the 2500K and actually always found the best performance was to let the OS manage which jobs where run on which cores. This seem particularly true in more modern OS's such as Win7 or Win8. So if you want P3D2 to use all the cores on a 2500k you need to add

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=15

to the Prepar3D.cfg file.

I'm guessing that's the same problem with the ODG rigs not showing. *-)

Good question, Dave. I had to check and, in fact, they were different - V1.4 was Dense and V2 was Normal - but changing the V2 settings to Dense then Very Dense and finally Extremely Dense had no effect, unfortunately.

That's possible, George but I think I converted them to statics from FS9 models. I did them about 4 years ago when I first set up the Lightning sim at Tangmere so I'm not sure - I'll see if I have the old files somewhere that I can check. Are you suggesting I can solve this problem using ModelConverterX? I'm sure that program is gathering electronic dust somewhere on my computer so if you think it might help I'll dig it out and give it a go.

It also doesn't explain the missing Portsmouth Highrise and Arundel Castle which are both definitely FS9 models. All thoughts and suggestions gratefully received.

I'll keep an eye out for the new version of ADE.

Thanks.
Pete
