Are we sure this aircraft is an Il-18? The horizontal stabilizer looks different than your typical Il-18. Maybe it's just the drawing. Not that I'm trying to be a pain in the neck.

Not a pain at all, Brian, as I've said before, I'm no expert, I just see things that look like others, or look unusual, then lob them out to you real knowledgeable people. Go ahead, query or challenge me any time.
An unintended trick here, Brian:
Two Soviet aircraft shared the designation Ilyushin Il-18. The first Il-18 was a propeller-driven airliner of 1946 but after a year of test flights that programme was abandoned.
The 1946 version was it.

I was a bit confused by the picture of the aircraft we are calling the Il-18, that there are two Il-18's does not help, a 1946 version and a later turboprop version. i think the fact that its at an angle distorts it and makes it hard to pin point. For me I had checked evert four engine transport IU could find and something about all of them eliminated them, of the pics I could find of the early Il-18 there was not enough to say yes difinitiably but I could not rule it out. So eventually the old axiom remained.

Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.

I've actually got Ilyushin 18 written on my notepad, but I wasn't sure so didn't submit it.

IL-18 was the closest I got too, but didn't know there was an earlier aircraft with the same designation. It has that elusive rounded-top fin. Well done Mike, and all who got it right.

Like others I kept coming back to the Il18 because of the fin but didn’t dig deep enough to find the original piston engined version.
So far had two failed tries at the latest Bitzer. EricT
