I think that's a great idea!

Then you can tell me what to do with it as I've downloaded it and I haven't the foggiest :$

Well here's Nick Needham' basic set-up guide, written for FSX, but probably applies equally to P3D

http://www.simforums.com/forums/nhancer ... 36586.html

There are plenty of discussions about further setting adjustments, and what benefits they bring, but I think I will stick with the basics that Nick provides in the link above, and apply the frame rate limiter.

Actually, I feel a growing sense of relief that I can leave the FSX performance debate behind. I have a mass of links to guides, forum threads and so on, but was never really able to get to the definitive solution. Nor was I ever satisfied that I hadn't missed something vital; some magical tweek, setting, or config edit that would smooth my flights out with all sliders to the right. It is with great pleasure that I can now consign all those links to the bin. :)

EDIT: Another set-up guide..

Righto! The tweak to end all tweaks and we'll all be home by Christmas!

Actually, I found those links yesterday and started fiddling last night but as I had an 0400 wake up this morning I haven't finished. It seems that nVidia Inspector replaces the old nHancer and it looks very good.

There's no profile for P3D obviously but there's one for FSX which you can add P3D to or you can create a new one following the advice in the link. The minimum frame rate setting is 30 FPS. I'll fiddle with it later on when I finish work.

Thanks, Paul.

You're welcome, Ian. To be honest, 20 fps seems fine for me but you can see what suits. And thats it...Nvidia Inspector and P3Ds own performance; bye bye fiddling and faffing about, hello more simming ! :)

You're up early, Paul! I've already worked one train and having a coffee before the next one - in an hour!

Re the FPS. What I mean is that 30fps is the minimum that nVidia Inspector offers. I can't see a way of inputting 20. Let me know if you find one.

Ah okay, yes I meant 20 fps from my experiences with the batch file I put in ( which will now come out ). Not enough coffee for me yet, clearly. 8)

Nvidia inspector in P3D (or FSX). I spent yesterday afternoon trying to find the optimum settings for Inspector in P3D and thought you might be interested in how I got on.

Nvidia Inspector is very similar to nHancer but is for more recent nvidia drivers. It is a UI front end for adjusting driver settings that you can't normally access. It has a built in frame rate limiter which is relevant as P3D recommend setting the in-sim fps to unlimited and then using an external limiter.

I followed the recommended settings for FSX in the second of the links given by Paul (above). There is already an FSX profile in the program and It is easy to either add the P3D executable to this or set up a new one. I added it to FSX to tune both sims at the same time. There are three different suggested settings for Anti Aliasing depending on how powerful the graphics card is. And this is where the tweaking is involved. The suggestions are based on 4xS, 8xS and 8xSQ.

The recommendation is that AA is unticked in the sim and adjusted in the driver. However, even using 8xSQ I was still seeing slight shimmering and slight jaggies and I have ended up ticking the AA box in the sim as well as setting 8xSQ in the driver! That got rid of any jaggies and shimmering and didn't hit the frame rates so, despite all the advice to the contrary, that's my setting  This shouldn't make a difference as Inspector is telling the driver to override any application setting - but it does for me :dunno:

I set the frame rate limiter to 30 fps but it doesn't seem to work as the screen counter is still showing the normal fluctuations seen in unlimited mode. It still runs pretty smooth, though, and as I can't see any further way of fiddling with this I've left it as is. :S

One other very effective setting is the LOD radius setting in P3D. As most of you will know, 4.50 is the default setting in FSX and P3D but with one important difference. In FSX you can improve the setting in the config file but it will always revert to default whenever you make another setting change. In P3D it stays set. I've changed it to 6.50 in P3D and it made an immediate improvement in the visual appearance of my FTX scenery. My pictures in the other post are untweaked i.e. not using Inspector and LOD at 4.50.

So I'm pretty happy with those settings and will see how I get on. Looks like cycling weather today so no serious flying for a few days.

Have a good Sunday!

Ian :)

Looks good Chris. My new bits turned up yesterday, so I'll be rebuilding this week as well :cpu:
I know about Yodel 8) Ordered a tablet just after Christmas which was just left on the doorstep in the rain, despite needing to be signed for  Luckily the tablet was OK.

Must admit Yodel are superb up here, always left with a Neighbour (as we'd asked) if we're not in. Nice thing is it seems to be a local woman who drives round the area in her own car. I think she covers a certain postcode area, picks the packages up and then delivers them. As she's local ("are you local  ") she know her way around what is a very confusing estate very well
