Tony

A minor update required. In the book "V Bombers" by Bob Downey, it shows photos of camouflaged Victors and Vulcans in the era of the Valiant and points out that the roundel was applied above the port wing only! And once that was pointed out, from the only photo of a Valiant where the starboard upper wing is shown, it is clear there is no roundel there either.

So remove one roundel for accuracy.

Hi Ian,

I have the Profile Publications Vickers Valiant (no.66) from 1966. It clearly shows a roundal on the top of both wings, the aircraft in the picture is XD825. :dunno:

Ben

Two years earlier (1964), XD824 only had one roundel!

So I guess it doesn't matter.

And how does Tony's camouflage pattern match the profile?

Ben

As far as the Victor and Vulcan fleet were concerned, the book I mentioned suggests that only one roundel was applied "during the early years of camouflage".

The scan below was labelled as being at Akrotiri in 1969.
