My best guess here is money and a considerable amount of the stuff Jonesey. To say something can never fly again is pretty much proposterous these days when you see the state of some aircraft that are made airworthy so yes.. money would be a good start.
Considering it's only just gone 10years since she last flew, you'd probably think that it wouldn't take much to get her in the air again but running the engines and lowering the flaps is one thing.. making sure the lot will stay together in the air is something else. Noting that we can't get money for engine oil.. you can pretty much guarantee she'll stay there until the bitter end.

OK Guy's..

I've had enough of Photobucket AND Pinnacle Studio10 for one day so here's another two parts to the onboard saga  I've followed the sections on with just a little overlap and both these look less squashed than before though the sound isn't as good as I'd like (likewise the picture really). They're a bit better than the first anyway!!

Part two can be viewed HERE and part three HERE

We are blessed Dave

The best most of us can hope for is to attend something like this - be it a Vanguard at Brooklands, or something like the Comet/Victor etc at Bruntingthorpe, is to look on & wonder what kind of action is going on on the flight deck.

With these wonderful snittpets of video, (& I don't think they are bad comparing with the likes of YouTube), you have allowed us a glimpse into that hallowed world & I for one am very grateful to you for posting them.

Heh class! I wish I could have been there

Any plans on running up the engines on that monster that i saw through the windscreen for a couple of seconds

Did you get any video out of the window looking back at the engines?

You are very kind chaps

The whole point of doing something like this is to share it otherwise it's very self-important and meaningless  My only gripe is that they're a bit rough and ready and not to the quality I'd like but at least you've got to see what goes on from t'other side of the glass

Hi Jonesey

Sadly.. that monster in front will not be running her engines up at any time in the future. I think the RAF have borrowed what they are allowed (Tonks had a 10 go tech a while back and the spare they sent out was off A40-AB!!! I think they hit their broken bit with a hammer rather than risk using the spare  ).
The other chap on the flightdeck who you hear but don't see is the Team Leader off the Viscount.. G-APIM.. and we discussed what the possibility was of getting her engines running. I could be wrong but I believe that two of the engines are either missing gearboxes (or only HAVE gearboxes) and the other two are intact though not connected. They've not run for so long that it may well be folly to try even with all the pipework sorted and I can't see RR willing to take such a charitable mission on (though stranger things have happened) It was suggested that we connect rope between EP's RH outer to IM's LH outer and get it turning over that way!!

Could have nicked the engines out of the bird at Cosford Scrap Merchants.
What ever became of her anyway?
