That's exactly what I don't want

I want to be able to read the instrument panel without a telescope. :sad:

If I were flying 2D on a model without a VC I could go to VC view and get a better outside view that that if I wanted it.


But if I want to see the panel it's 2D for me

I always use VC unless it is IFR completely - ie you can't do a visual landing. I don't often fly IFR though as it's incredibly boring.

My love is to fly in VC taking in the views and using the GPS for navigation.

The VC also puts you in the cockpit and it also has a more natural perspective of the outside view than you get in the panel in my opinion.

So to sum it up, 2D is useful for IFR, but that takes the fun out of flying (Much like autopilot). I much prefer VFR in the VC.

Some valid points there BT, however there have been some valid points on the 2D debate also. Its down to personal choice at the end of the day. I love looking out the window and to the sides using the pan around stick. For me it just adds another little depth of realism. If you have good scenery installed then for me its a must as it give you a feeling of sitting in the cockpit. Something that 2D aircraft in VC mode cannot do.

Especially now as I know how to pan around quicker (Cheers to GR!). If a weather front approaches requiring the use of the instruments more then I would revert back to 2D for approach or landing etc..

Yes, that's pretty much how I fly, but if there is good visibility I take off and land in VC.

Whatever happened to beacon to beacon or VFR navigation. Like my old flight instructor used to say "what happens if the GPS craps out?"

Might be a bit late here, but I only ever fly with the 2D panel. Like what has been mentioned before, namely needing a telescope to look at the instruments, and the clarity of the dials themselves. Has kept me a 2D man. Also, my system cannot cope with the gorgeous VC's that DM and Rick have come up with recently all that well..

The complex (but pretty!) VC's are usually deleted to save space and increase framerates, but I keep the ones in small aircraft like the chippie or the meteor, as they are less heavy on the frames and I do admit I like to chuck an aircraft around the sky in a VC sometimes!!

It would be neat if there was a way to zoom the gauges out away from the panel just about two or three times
and the VC veiw would stay the same,
By the way I claim intellectual Patent rights
on that thought. !
