Can someone check something for me on the JF Chipmunk - when flying level according to the artificial horizon, I'm actually very nose high. This isn't right, is it ?

Will check and report back. Haven't flown it since yesterday and probably won't do for long, until the points raised have been hopefully changed by the people in charge. Think may have given them a little headache in all that I have mentioned, but already am helping with a few points. Glad to do anything to help. In the end we all want something that closely represents the real aeroplane and mine and other's help and assistance, works towards this goal.
Reading elsewhere, people seem so happy with it as it is (and for which they have every right to be pleased), would be just nice to have it amended to show the real Chipmunk and in time think that this is possible. Everyone at Just Flight has been so nice over the last few days and as said before will do all that I can to assist. Its the kind of person I am!
Cheers,
Martin

Thanks Martin. I kept flipping from VC to external view last night, and then tilting my head to level her out. I'm sure its not right, but that could be me - I'm often 'sure' about many things.
I've posted a query about it on the JF forum too.

PaulK,
Hmmm, that sounds as if the CL vs Alpha graph in the .air file needs shifting sideways. I had that problem with my Miles Falcon & cured it that way.

You're correct, Paul K. The aircraft should be be flown S & L using the altimeter, and secondarily - the ROC indicator; in the r/w once S & L is established, the knob on the AH should be adjusted to bring the aeroplane bar level with the horizon bar. In the JF sim this knob is non-functional (and missing altogether on Rick's Chippy) but his setup is ok and the JF one isn't. I've used Bernt's cfg and air file with both aircraft, and so I think this is a gauge issue (but I'm not a gauge programmer, so I can't give any kind of definitive answer). Perhaps someone else can answer this, as it is a bit of a pain!

Most Artificial Horizons do not have a knob to move the model aircraft up or down...The instrument has self correcting mechanisms built in to bring it back to true level after toppling (perhaps in aerobatics). Some have a "Fast Erection" button to get it stabilized more quickly after toppling. More modern instruments do not have any limits in roll or pitch and do not topple as they are free for 360 degrees in pitch or roll and indicate correctly throughout aerobatic manoeuvres. I recall flying the odd aircraft with that knob to raise or lower the aeroplane model, but I never had any use for it and never used it.

That's true, Peter, but one can't - or shouldn't carte blanche place all the modern functions and "looks" into the "old" Chippies. At 69 years old I'm a product of the '50's and '60's, (read "old fart") and you're just a young feller - but no Chip I ever had contact with had a self-correcting horizon or a fast-erection button - nor, for that matter a black/white segmented prop. If the gyro wasn't caged prior to any serious maneouver, then one could forget about it coming back for what seemed an eternity. I don't know how JF will segregate the versions - but they ought not be mixed, as this kills the immersion.
Cheers,
pj
