Hey - only another 10 and we've got enough for a new religion! Can't have two St. Nigels though - can we?

Ian :worried:

OK - I've got it! St. Nigels the patron saints of twins!

I was going to go with patron saints of clones, but I think we might get a lot of Daves ...

Fret not Ian! Since I am proably not really worthy of sainthood, I will graciously stand down in favour of Nigel 1. ;-)

I read a review on Flightsim.com the other day from Andrew Herd about yet another (yawn) sky/cloud/water texture package for FS9. In his intro for the review he said that the reason so many FS9 products are still being released is because FSX has been a problem child. That for me summed it up perfectly.

There's room for both on my system. I have FS9 with all the bells and whistles - I am a serial downloader of airport sceneries and I like to fly the more complex and detailed aircraft between these sceneries. I also have FSX installed but I restrict my flying to the areas covered by the fantastic FTX sceneries in Australia, and the aircraft I fly are the likes of the Aerosoft Beaver, Twin Otter, Carenado Mooney, Real Air Spit, Rick's Hawk, etc.

There are probably lots of reasons for the lack of payware addons for FSX... I personally feel it has been because FSX has proven to be a disappointment for so many of us. High hopes of a fantastic new version were dashed by poor performance and compatibility issues between service packs. I think FS enjoyed something of a rennaissance during FS9, and for many of us FSX is a step backwards. The huge amount of payware available right now means that for a developer to make a splash they have to come up with something very special, they have to release something that models their chosen subject very closely and has a bucket load of features, otherwise it will be lost in the sea of FS payware. This means only the most talented (or unscrupulous) developers/publishers can hope to compete in this market, hence the lack of FSX products.
