Eric, Den, Allan, Mick and PeteP came up with some inventive interpretations, which only goes to illustrate the similarities between different aircraft.
The pictures lacked clarity, having come from a 1940s recognition book.

p.s. just done a quick google search and there are load of photos of this plane. From the posted image I couldn't determine exactly what role the aircraft fulfilled and from there couldn't narrow my search.
Anyway, that's my excuse.
