Probably to help certification like registering Fokker 100 as F.28-0100 and MD-83 as DC 9-83.

In effect treating them as a sub type rather than a different type for certification reasons.

Think you're spot on there, Avro RJ's are often similarly listed as BAe146-RJ85 etc Interesting one are the Russian Sukhoi fighters that (all) fall under the NATO codename of "Flanker", including the Su-27,30,33,34,35 and 37. I was told they all have different designations to convince the then Soviet (later Russian) Governments that they were new rather than derivative projects and thereby be more likely to gain funding from them.

Several of them were practically all new even if they were outwardly similar, including the Su-30, Su-32FN, Su-34 (Su-27IB), and Su-37.

I've always seen Russian development to prefer evolution over revolution though as there is evident heritage from one aircraft to the next and in fact from the MiG-15 to MiG-21 there were a lot of similarities, similarly you saw a lot of similarities in design from the Su-7 through Su-22. Even the Tu-95 Bear saw many "evolutions" in the design as did the Tu-22 (including a massive redesign but with the same basic airframe).

RNZAF Andover Paint Charts

Post by Ian Warren »

Hi Rick ,
I seem to have a problem in contacting or getting replys to mails sent to u , bad link/address maybe .
I requested paint charts from Wigram Airforce Archives , for another project the CS130 'RNZAF paint' , but with news off your ANDOVER put me into "yip"mode also requesting all they have with paint schemes thru the planes history in NZ .

Recieved Confirm of plans/information being sent thanks to the Museum Staff tonight so will have in the next day or so (monday).

I did mention was going to have a go it doing a photoreal paint (Wethered albeit) since access is easy due to one sitting on the ramp since been at Wiggy , and if required could set up appointment with Miss Provane and Barf , the Museums FS laisions , for extra info required by you.

Lookin foward to ya super work .. hey thought also have a Strikemaster there to ! LOL ....... or maybe ?

Cheers Ian

Hi Ian

Please forget it and don't send me anything

As Rick says no request it's a pig to paint

I am not involved with the painting so far.

There is no paint kit

Rick is painting as he goes what he wants and that's it so please leave alone.

Sorry if I sound off but that first post says it all.

I think the J61 project was killed off by the formation of AI(R) consortium in the mid 1990s as it would have been in direct competition with the ATR 42/72 aircraft. There might have been one completed J61, I'm not sure.
Toby
Correct Toby, only one ATP/Jetstream 61 was built, never flew.
I last saw it languishing outside the 'flight shed' at Prestwick in 1996-ish.
As you say it was killed off, like the J41, by the AI(R) consortium.

Can't believe I've only just seen this thread  Nice one Rick, looking gorgeous! A 748 with attitude!

Will there be an updated sound set for it? - The bigger props produce a lower note.

Hi Ian

I did get your message.

If i can paint that one i will but it's not easy as the model has stretched textures.

Sorry but I don't look at e mail much anymore as 85% of it is junk mail about Viagra
or urgent messages about me needing to supply my password for online banking from banks i have never belonged to.

(I hate to think how many people answer this sort of cra*)

I'm also extremely busy with personal things at the moment but i did get it and will if i can.

Regards
Rick
