SAMM only converts flyable FS9 aircraft to static.

Thanks George.. I was beginning to wonder if Boddingtons was having any effect

Well.. that's just poo. Is there any way of converting an AI ship into a static.. any way that is that doesn't expect the end user to have a degree in Astro Physics?? *-)

I don't know about a degree, but one can use ModelConverterX. Which ship do you want converting?

I always forget about that George! You'll get it over at fsdeveloper Dave.

Perhaps an odd question.. is SAMM2 supposed to be able to convert any model to static or is this just for aircraft? Reason I ask is because I've just looked at it.. pointed it to an AI ship (in the Boats folder) I wanted to make a static and it reported no files found. Is it looking for an airfile cause if it is.. it won't find one :|

Dave,
SAMM2 WILL convert AI,
Just look at yesterday's shot of the placement screen, I was accessing Rob Richardson's AI Gannet for the example.
If the object is already a static, there's a selection box to pick it up on the main SAMM screen, below the usual boxes. I haven't actually used that yet, but I guess it will update FS9 statics to FSX.
I'll have a crack at placing one of my FS9 ships and report back.

EDIT:
First thing I noted was that all my ships for FS9 are in the "Aircraft" folder, I don't have one for ships.
Next, I couldn't activate the "FS9" radio button in SAMM2, so I chose "Other". That took me to C:\, and I navigated down to FS9/Aircraft/Car Ferry.
SAMMED it, and got this:

Hi Mike,

To use ships as AI in FSX / P3D you have to strip out things like the aircraft.cfg and replace it with a file called sim.cfg. my guess is that SAMM2 is looking for an FS9 style "Aircraft ship" ;)

That's an interesting addition to your scenery Mike though I'm not exactly sure what's happened.. I'm lost somewhere in between FS9, FSX and ORBX  I need to sit down in a dark corner and ponder ;)

FS9 ships are really aircraft that never take off. FSX has "real" ships with no aircratf.cfg and no air file.

Yup.. I understand that George and put the probably reason for my FSX versions not showing in SAMM2 down to that fact. Perhaps I can find older versions *-) The RN ships I have certainly look like they came from a different sim *-)
