Tks for the HU Chris :)

I saw the 'read manual now' button and chose to ignore it  As a consequence.. I wasn't too miffed by the slightly sluggish liftoff or ease at which it stalled as I expected as much with full tanks ;-) You'll note my screenie was over Wales too!

Lovely shot Dave and, more importantly, thanks for the mini review.

She sounds good to me!

Cheers

Gareth

PS I see someone on the AS forum has complained about a stick in the rear cockpit, saying that you can't fly from the back in a Tonka. As I've replied over there - you can in a twin sticker!

For me the back seat is just eye candy, it's enjoyable to use occasionally for a few atmospheric screenshots but it doesn't serve any use no matter what you really do with it, unless you explore the FSX multiplayer capabilities which I haven't really looked at yet. But then to be honest who'd want to be GIB when you could be flying it yourself? (Sorry to any navigators/WSO who read or lurk on the forums, no offence intended!) :welldone:

Hi again...
By DaveB: Vorticees.. visible on fully open and fully swept.. accurately placed too
So I installed the Tonka in FS9 too and indeed, the vorticees are there in the correct postion for both wing options.
If this is possible in FS9, I suppose it must be possible in FSX as well!
Or am I mistaken?

Yo Viper ;-)

I've not tried it in FSX yet as FSX has become rather troublesome since the advent of SP2 (faster, smoother but buggier). I'd have thought if it was possible in FS9, it would surely be a 'standard' for FSX. Will install the FSX version and have a looksee ;-)

EDIT..
Viper.. page 3 of the readme.pdf (FSX Notes) states that contrails will always appear at the wings fully out position. No explanation why this is.. just that this is what'll happen :dunno:

Hi Dave...

Guess it's "RTFM" time for me. Always jump in for a ride before reading the manuals.
Must be the age, I think, I'm from the piston engine era although I had some T-33A and F-104 rides in my Air Force days as a photographer...
Thanx...

I'm no different Viper ;-) Not sure what made me RTFM this time cause I didn't before taking the FS9 version out :worried:

What's the minimum safe height for a Tornado to perform a loop?

Hi Forthbridge...

My experience with this FSX baby is that it can be done from takeoff, that is, if you have full AB and don't stall the thing while performing the loop, so make your loop gently and careful. Shut down AB when you're at the top of your loop. This should do it!
To start, take off in the "cleanest" aircraft, the Italian one.

Just a point on the 'stalling' issue, the real jet has a system called SPILS which is the spin and incidence limitation system that, when turned on, is designed to prevent driver airframes from over alpha-ing the jet and losing control. The spin recovery in the Tonka is to eject.

I don't know if the model incorporates SPILS but with it switched off an agricultural pilot would be able to over alpha the jet and thereby suffer a lack of control.

I know of one jet that was lost at Bruggen in the 90s that was overalpha-ed with the SPILS off, but at no point did the aircraft stall in the conventional sense, it simply became uncontrollable.

Best wishes

Nige
