We were allowed to smoke on the flight deck. Keep the ash and dog-end in a plastic cup, then remove the Very Pistol from the cabin roof, hold the cup up to the hole, and sluuuurp ... it's gone!
I once loaded the Very pistol in an Anson 19 and then put it back in the tube and fired it...However, I did not turn it to latch it into the tube and when I fired, the recoil jumped it back out of the tube and the exiting flare went out of the tube but shaved itself on the edges...Showering Eric, my navigator with sparks and bits of burning magnesium!...He hastily brushed it all off and avoided any damage to himself or the aeroplane. I don't think he ever forgave me! :worried:

One for you I think George..

Using ISv2 in FSX, I see all the libraries (at least I think I do) including object libraries from VFR Airports. However, I'm not seeing these in FS9 (not the VFR ones of course but ones from the UK2K sceneries). Should I be able to?

I don't have any of the Xtreme airports in FS9, but I think you should see Lib_airliners etc. which are in the UK2000 Common Library folder.

Hello Mate :hello:

Yup.. they're all there safe and sound in the Common folder but they're not showing in IS for some reason. On one or two of the airports, I've a lot of AI so it would be handy to have the airliners gone but at certain ones, this would remove biz jets e t c too. My idea was to remove the statics and put the ones I wanted back if that makes sense but as the libraries aren't showing in FS9 using ISv2.. I'm a bit stuck.

No hassle really.. just wondered if there was any inherent reason why the libraries didn't show in FS9 when they do in FSX :) There's always Plan B.. not that I have one yet

Hi Dave,

The statics are not in a library, they are combined as a single model.

Hi George :hello:

Yup.. perhaps I've not made myself clear.. not surprising as I changed my mind on how to word this a dozen times  I appreciate the statics for each airfield are thrown into 1 bgl.. some, more than one but in FSX, I see the libraries contained in the 'Common' folder when I open ISv2 and can add statics from them to any area in FSX. In FS9 when using ISv2, the FS9 Common folder contents aren't visible in the drop down window.

Comparing both folders (FS9 and FSX), the contents are different and I guess this is because the sceneries are put together in a different way. It's not a problem in the grand scale of things but I've just noticed it as I've only ever used ISv2 in FSX other than a brief testing of those RN statics showing multi shaded hulls in Portsmouth.

One airfield in particular (Birmingham Xtreme) has nothing at all on the western side of the runway except 1 AI Cessna and the AI Police helicopter making it look a bit bare in FS9. This is what prompted me to add some of the smashing new statics seen at other airports to the area in an attempt to liven it up a bit. I can add other statics there of course but the newer ones from UK2K are really very good so I wanted to use them as I can in FSX.

The exercise has highlighted another thing.. just how untidy FS9 is! I've a lot of duplicated libraries showing in ISv2 and this isn't because I've put them in the wrong place but where scenery developers have said they have to go. Some are in the Static Objects Library while others are in Addon Scenery\Scenery. They all work but it does cause the sim to be a lot more cluttered than necessary :)

Hi Dave,

I don't have ISV2, just V1 and I have never used it with FS9.

However, for FSX, there are options as to which libraries are displayed. Do you have the same settings for FS9 as you have for FSX?

Hello Mate :hello:

Yes.. the same settings are available for both sims. In FSX, I use the default which basically leaves only one option unticked. This works the same in FS9. I did try ticking the last option and got a warning from IS that although this would show a lot more bgl's.. many would only operate from within a specific region. I still didn't see the libraries in the FS9 common folder but to be honest, selecting this option makes the drop down list as long as a Chinese telephone directory so I could have missed them all

I've been used to seeing the western side of Brum empty though I can't remember what was there in Brum v1 :wall: I now have v2 installed and without the Police helicopter near the FlyBe hangar and that lone Cessna.. it would be desolate. A quick shuftie on Google Earth shows a fair number of aircraft parked up there :)

Another one for you George :worried:

I want to try and build Portsmouth up to the same level in FS9 as it is in FSX.. perhaps moreso. Looking around MCX, I see it will 'save as' FS9 objects as well as FSX but as per.. it requires the FS9 SDK installed which I did have on one pc but not on this one 8) There are a shed load of downloads for the FS9 SDK.. question is, do I need them all *-) MakeMDL would appear to be a prerequisite but I'm not sure what others I'd need. Unlike the FSX SDK.. the FS9 one seems fragmented so it's not the same, single download install 8)

EDIT: Scrub that George. MCX references bglcomp and makemdl so those are the 2 I've downloaded and installed ;)

Here we go again...

Good old FS9.. there's plenty of life left in the old dog yet :cpu: OK.. it means remaking all the buildings and objects I put into the FSX version but what the heck. Dock object is 3D Warehouse dae converted to FS9 format using MCX. Initially had problems with the model losing some of those ridiculously small 4x4 textures so I minimized the drawcall first rather than later as I'd been doing with models for FSX then saved as bmp/DXT1. I had to abandon a couple of FSX converted models because of the same thing so I'll go back and revisit them again later using the same procedure :)
