As promised, some pics of the Sabre.

It doesn't feel the most stable platform, as I guess it wouldn't at that time - it's a bit "wobbly" - especially in the lateral plane (not along the wings, but along the length of the fuselage - feels a bit like a rocking horse at times  ).

All in all, I'm quite pleased with it so far - the cockpit is just great. My first 'flight' ended in a burning heap at the end of the runway, due to not realising I had to keep the nosewheel steering button pressed whenever I was steering (as opposed to a toggle). Oh well. But it allowed me to watch the AI complete the sortie on their own, and take some screenies:

The lovely VC:

Note that the lowest framerate I've had with this aircraft was in the high 30's, with high 50's being normal. It's now a dedicated 64-bit program.

These are the bad guys:

...and back to base:

On my next flight, everything went very smoothly, despite not having read the short manual at that time:

Image

When I came in to land, I thought I was pushing it at 160KIAS - but the aircraft bounced quite hard and I found myself gliding back onto the runway at a mere 90KIAS, quite smoothly. I did seem to be applying the brakes a little on the 'enthusiastic' side, though  - as the skid marks show:

Image

According to the manual, the flaps should be raised, to aid reducing speed - but mine refused to move after touchdown *-) Maybe that jolt on the bounce b*ggered them? :$

Also according to the manual, touchdown speed should be at 115KIAS. OOPs! That explains a bit... 8)

Here's the 'official' take-off and landing instructional video (for now):

I've not dropped any iron as yet - though I couldn't resist a quick blast with those 6 .50 Brownings! :excited:

I would really recommend this module for DCS World, whether you are a combat simmer or not.

Now I need to learn how to do repaints in DCSW and get some RAF paints done!

VEAO now tell us that the P-40F is going to be finished in the next two weeks (which doesn't mean released - probably have a lot of testing and fitting into DCSW to do).

This is the aircraft modelled - there's a short video of it down the page:

This is a release day buy for me :agree:

The very nice looking Meteor that was recently linked to in a post referencing development data and info for DCSW has been added to the VEAO release schedule! Great stuff!

In addition, news has come that the P-40F is on sched and likely to be out at the end of the year, as is the Spitfire (which will be the clipped wing, bubble canopy Griffon-engined version), which will be released after the Bearcat.

Apparently, VEAO now have the noddle of CAS to help them on their way (as VEAO also do military simulation training stuff) and things are looking very rosy, from a Classic British Sim point of view :welldone:

Seems the Hawk will be released by the next Duxford airshow (mid September).
Gloster Meteor added to the list.
We have just taken on a modeller that has an amazing model already made and looking forward to adding this iconic aircraft to our roadmap.
Why do these people (i.e. those people  ) always call it a 'roadmap' these days? Ever since Jimmy Carter? What is wrong with calling it what it is - a plan?

Anyway...
I had a very interested day with Close Air Solutions on Wednesday this week and many thanks to Mike and Gareth for their hospitality and showing me how pilots and FAC/JTAC ground personnel do things in the real world, a very informative day.
Look for a post from Mike or Gareth in our forum section soon with exciting things to come.

Go check out their website, videos and e-learning tools.
http://www.closeairsolutions.com/

Also Mike is an ex Hawk pilot and WI so having him fly the Hawk in DCS was an honour to see and we'll certainly be taking his comments on board during development of our custom weapon models during beta.
That's another one... "Go check out..." Excuse me, we are not children! It's "go and check out..."

Ahem. :hide:

Sorry, I just hate the way our language - something I used to be very proud of, is being eroded by the use of foreign expressions or terms. Either that or copying an incorrect term commonly used by someone whose native language isn't English, assuming it to be correct. Mostly television and internet to blame (along with dismal education), I think.

I know, I know... shut up, John, you're off again!

You more and likely know of this F86 http://www.sectionf8.com/ for fs2004 a great model IMHO and one of my favorite aircraft when i was a youngster,

I must admit DCS do some great stuff but unfortunately i am not into fighters, i would like to be but i'm now to old

Cheers,

Roger.

I must admit I do get a bit worried about how long I'll be able to keep up with it, Roger.

I have the SF8 Sabre (for FSX? That's where I use it, anyway) as well as the MilViz and Virtavia ones. I haven't flown them enough to have a valid opinion, I'm afraid.

The DCS helicopter sims Mi-8MT and UH-1H both have campaign more along the lines of UN and rescue stuff. Having said that, the Huey is a real finicky thing to fly. The Hip is far more sedate. I've been trying to get up the gumption to challenge myself to master the Huey. Thing is, I know just how frustrating it can be. 8)

To be honest, though, regarding the combat side of things, I can honestly say I've spent the vast majority of my time in the sim just learning to fly, navigate and operate the fancy electronics and doing sightseeing trips. :agree:

I'm not into flying or building any Nazi Germany machines, but after the recent Kickstarter fiasco with RRG and ED I had little option here (take what we say or 'donate' us your money). At least it was only $2.

However, now I have discovered the RAF scheme, I may find myself flying it sometime. This was an AI flight I set up, just to have a look:
