Surely the reason Georges looks more clunky is that hes chosen the Windows2000 style theme? Definately personal taste though
Cripes, yes! It makes me queasy to look at that one (sorry George) but I was referring to the W7 style as in your shot and comparing it to the Chrome tabs.
OK then. 'Combined address/search bar (containing magnifying glass to indicate search capability)'. Whatever you call it, it's floating, disconnectedly in mid-air and I don't like it! Oh and another thing - it's a bit short compared to Chrome's and you can't see much of the address if you've got a couple of tabs open.
You haven't persuaded me yet, Ben. My attraction to cheap tat is obviously too strong!

Been a useful additon to the original problem this has as I've already removed much of what I didn't want to see off IE8
What was the original problem, again? We haven't got this thread round to women or scotch yet. I guess we're all a bit apathetic after christmas!
You can make the address bar wider but my point was that it's restricted by the number of (ugly, clunky, disconnected) tabs that you've got open on the same level). My description of the address bar as 'floating' is a descriptive term to describe that it's not connected to any other part of the browser structure. I didn't mean floating in the technical sense. It's like they added it on as an afterthought and found a space they could plonk it in and decided on taking up tab space rather than the empty, wasted space above it. In fact, perhaps 'floating' is what it should have been if it had been designed properly. As I said before - it works fine but it's ugly and hasn't got an integrated design and I don't like using it because of that.
And I'm supposed to be going to work soon but if you all keep arguing with me I'll have to phone in sick to keep defending my point of view all afternoon, damn you. Why not just accept that I'm right?
I think I get you now. In Chrome, there is a separate address bar for each tab, basicly making each tab like another instance of the browser, whereas in IE the tabs are just that, tabs and don't have a separate address bar.
I think my friends comments on Cheap Tat where related to google in general and not Chrome specifically.

I hadn't even noticed that It's even better than I thought!!!!
Cheers, Ben. Enjoy the rest of the holiday. I'm off to work now but don't feel too sorry for me because they're not running many trains today. I sit around in an armchair for six hours reading the paper and a book and drinking tea. Then I take a little train to Southampton and back and go home. No wonder rail fares are increasing
