It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of 'Scalded Cat' my beloved supersonic, sub-orbital, Meteor F8.

Was that just
a bit humorous?

Downloaded (using IE8) and installed the new files. Performance wise I'd say the Meteor now flys very realistically.

Wasn't able to go supersonic even in a dive. She's perfect, imho. The only issues I've come across is that the rpm gauges are still inop and the Meteor twitches a bit anytime while moving on the ground. It's sort of like the twitch you'll experience when you fly her too fast but not as severe. Thanks very much for the update Rob. If there's any other testing you'd like me to do I'd be more than happy to.

Hi Brian
I know your findings are of more interest to Rob but I'm surprised to see that sort of difference between SP2 and SP2/ACC. One to look out for with any of our future releases.. if we have any that is

Unfortunately Rob, the alternative .cfg & .air file do not correct things adequately when flying with SP2, the RPMs still do not work, the Slip gauge is permanently hard left, although the JPT now works. Comparing the ground speed (shift+Z) with the ASI it seems now in scale but the Machmeter is way out - M0.97 @ 5 k ft gives 750 Kts - much too fast anyway for the old beast that suffered badly from aileron snatch & buffet above M 0.8 with clean or ventral tank fitted, but aileron snatch & buffet with wing drop can occur at M 0.72 with drop tanks. The Pilots Notes give 515 KIAS from zero to 2000 ft & M 0.8 above 2000 ft clean or with Ventral tank. Drop tanks limit it to 435 KIAS & M0.7 up to 20,000 ft. M0.72 from 20 to 30 K ' & above 30 K' M=.74.
Pity not usable in SP2, although I might try to get Acceleration to see if it makes a difference. I must admit as has been noted above, tuning jets in Flight Sim is difficult & can take a long time to sort out, mind you in my experience so can some props.
BTW why have you not posted the alternatives on the Pond?
Regards
Keith

Dave there should be no difference SP2 is included in Accel, as far as I am concerned the flight dynamics should not be any different, where things go awry is the half baked Max Realism junk which as far as I can see throws random multipliers at the flight dynamics Fs 9 realism is nowhere near as erratic.
The flight characteristics should be the same for FSX SP1, SP2 and Accel

Hi Rich..
That's exactly as I'd presumed. As mentioned earlier, as far as I was aware.. the major difference was in the 'helo flight model' plus you get loads of stuff you don't want (well.. loads of stuff I don't want anyway)

The fact SP2 is hard coded into ACC should be neither here nor there

Having reloaded the F8 & turned the Control Realism down to half (from Max), I can confirm a better set of figures nearer the mark, although I will have to try again & recalibrate my throttle on my joystick as I can only go between 24% & 76% using the stick throttle, which gives about 240 KIAS at 24%. Mach still optimistic showing M 0.7 at 1800 ft with 200 KIAS showing. JPT seems to work but without variation, No RPM still & Slip hard left. This is using the original ACC .cfg & .air files. Will see if the modified ones change anything later on.

I'm happy to report I have no rpm gauge issues. I am using fsx acceleration.

Have tried the modified .cfg & .air files for SP2 with the realism settings at easy & its back to its 'Rocket Ship' state.......still with no RPM etc. So it seems the best compromise for non ACC users is to go Medium for Realism & use the Acceleration .cfg & .air files!

When you install Acceleration (which has SP2 in it) you are advised to uninstall SP2 if you already have it installed. Normally it would all get overwritten on an update like that but having to uninstall it before reinstalling suggests a change of something that could get it's kickers in a twist if FS finds 2 files of the same name in different locations or 2 different config files contradicting each other. Well something like that. Perhaps some hard coding changes to where FS looks for specific updated files.

Well.. the thing with ACC is that it was released to the buying public before SP2 was to the freeware bods so I guess there was little if anything that would need to be overwritten. It soon became obvious to those that hung on for SP2 and installed it
then cracked and bought ACC that to try and install ACC over SP2 could, would and did cause FSX to fail in some circumstances. Attempts to remove SP2 would consequently fail and even FSX would not uninstall. Not an ideal situation

The improvements of SP2
should however remain the same as those in ACC but as you say, the content may have been reshuffled due to the hard coding
