They'd be giving away free Hawks to a lot of repainters then, as its a firm favourite with a lot of people in the UK. I'm sure it'd be a small ask for your Vast International emporium to purchase one copy of the Hawk?

I'll be making my purchase next month, after I finish my work in the Garden..... I need somewhere to get suitably drunk during what's left of the summer......lol

In a way, I feel that Payware companies not making their addons available to online FS shops such as simmarket.de & fspilotshop (surely a lucrative deal in itself? ) doesn't really help their sales, or even reach some audiences

I don't really see this being a problem, it's not like the real world where there may not be a branch of GAME near you, if you've got the internet you can get to the Sky sim shop. I can see you might lose casual sales to those who would only visit those sites, but for products the quality of the Hawk that's probably only a very small proportion of online sales.

Oddly (since I have been trading e-mails with Nels since last, for him to put a Hawk press release), I see the the boxed Vixen is now up at Pilot's Shop (FS.com's own retail outlet). Perhaps the Hawk will follow? Me, I know nothing

High street shops such as "Game and PC World" seemed to have moved direction in the last 2 years or so. I can remember when the shelves were full of CD's of the latest releases but now they seem bare in comparison and rather concentrate on "console" games and mini MP3 players. I do not know if it would even be viable in some cases to use them as outlets and can see only problems later either with returned stock on Sale or Return or discounted items when they need the shelf space and it still being sold full price elsewhere. Why use other online stores when you have one yourself? Is the net not global? A bigger profile is required and that will come as more products go on sale and the site is polished after it is complete but I believe that it is easier for customers to view, read about and purchase a product in a single location and also get support there. I hate it when you buy something online and then have to go to another website or do a search to get to a forum to find the support pages as the merchant just wants to get the cash in.
Repaints are important to sales of some aircraft and I know that more than most but I do hate it when people repaint stuff and then insist on a "private" forum to download requiring membership and would suggest that it could be breach of copywrite. Also what constitutes a re-paint? Certainly not a "cut and paste" of a squadron code or badge. I have worked and assisted re-painters in the past with my models and even sent paint kits to those that requested them if one was not released but in my view there are very few that could complete a full repaint from just blank white textures with only the wire frame templates in place and remember - the whole idea of a repaint is for your own personal enjoyment and that others may share in your work freely and not to generate a second product market. If a "painter" is good enough and has the time and wishes to do so then more often that not they are used by the modeller for the original files and I know at least 5 that I would use but prefer to do my own in most cases. These are my personal views on the subjects and repaints although very important for the longevity of a product - actually mapping and doing the originals only takes about 5% of the product development time and most modellers have at least 7 or 8 original textures that never get released because of space reasons and then they move onto the next project.

If you're thinking what I think you are trying to say (without saying it), same could be said for Sim-Outhouse, for example Yago9's famous line of photoreals, which require membership to download, and his paints are only released at SOH.

If it's free membership, I can't see what the problem would be. You're simply restricting the downloads to people who sign up. By the same token, I could paint up an aircraft, and not let anyone download it unless they contacted me personally. Would that be a breach of copyright?

However, ignore what I just said if you're talking about paying membership. I'm guessing that's a totally different kettle of fish!

If you make a paint scheme for an aircraft, you own that paint scheme (all copyrights for logos etc. put aside). Therefore you can do what you please with your paint scheme. It may be considered "ungentlmanly", alas the world is full of people that are not gentlemen ;-)

SoH is free membership but there are others that charge members and then hide the repaints inside that area, not good cricket if the original model is payware from another source, but if built in house and owned by the host site then its perfectly all right, its there model and they can choose how to publish or allow access to there hearts content.

Town, the problem is that with layered paint kits these days its very easy, and it does happen, for repainters to only change one or two items like nose art or serials and claim it to be their repaint, when in fact 98% of the texture is the original, all the layers, panels lines, details and weathering.
