DanKH wrote:forgive me but it is a lot easier to decompile the trafficxxxxxx.blg (the default traffic file)

open the flightplanxxxx.txt and do a search and replace and thus replacing all VHHX entries with VHHH.

Save and recompile.

This way you have rerouted all the default traffic from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok instead..... just the exact opposite you did when you transferred all the WoAI from VHHH to VHHX...

No magic in that.
Thanks for the advice, guys. Dan - I understand what you say about rerouting the default traffic back to Chek Lap Kok, but 9dragons is dated 1998 and the new airport is still under construction. As the approach to Kai Tak is over the top of it, they would be more of a nuisance than they are now :brick: Could I reroute them somewhere further away - Macao for instance? I'd like to delete them completely, but until I have sufficient AI packages for the rest of the world it will be a bit lonely :-(

By the way, Nigel, thanks for the detailed advice but Dan's certainly sounds easier. Commenting out (//) an airport certainly works as that's what I've done to VHHH using TTools when I've added VHHX.

Ian :)

Ian you shouldn't comment anything out in the Woai files. just search and replace VHHH with VHHX.... job done.

WoAI comes in several packages/files. The default AI-traffic is all cloaked up in one traffixxxxxx.bgl be it IFR/VFR, GA, the lot....

It looks as though you have the WoAI sorted So well just concentrating on removing default traffic.

One thing is to reroute it to a nearby airport, that wouldn't ruin the time-schedules obviously, the airports being close to each other.

Rerouting all the traffic from VHHX to say EKCH, would be slightly more complicated as the flight time wouldn't match then....

So what to do.

1. either reroute the traffic to a nearby airport (that wouldn't have conflicting airspace with VHHX) or...
2. completely remove all traffic routes that has VHHX as part of of their legs.
3. Completely remove ALL default traffic and ONLY use WOAI / RetroAI, Traffic 200X etc. etc.

I personally vouch for 3. renaming the default traffic file to .bak takes care of this small problem, and installing one of the other does it for me.

I had all the WoAI traffic installed at one time, and my airports were filled.
I've now removed them again as I want a 50-60 early 70 scenery, and thus the current only AI traffic I use is the newest CalClassic.
At a point I had all the 70'ies flight plans from RetroAI, but it took a looooong time finding all the necessary textures and models for the flight. But it is doable.

The quick and dirty, is the way you've already started out. Rename the default traffic bgl, and continue on with installing more and more WoAI while remembering to edit the flight plans to use VHHX instead of VHHH whenever it's needed.

Start out with the obvious first and then add them little by little, no need to install them all at one time.

So if your currently mostly in Hong Kong, you should go for Cathay, China, China Eastern, China Northern, Malaysian, Qantas, BAW, AFR, UPS, AA etc. etc. all of them you already know have Hong Kong as destination. You will soon see the byproduct in other parts of the world.

Thanks, Dan. That clears things up for me. I would have liked to go retro AI but 50s and 60s is a bit early for me. I'd have liked 70s and 80s.

But this 9dragons is so fantastic that I shall use the modern AI and use my retro aircraft the same way that John Travolta uses his 707

I shall follow your advice and scrap the default traffic and just gradually add WoAI packages to my few favourite airports.

Thanks very much for your advice, guru :prayer:

Ian ;-)

Nice one Garry ;-)

The first thing to do (in my limited experience) is to get rid of the default traffic file and build from there. No one wants to see default traffic but M$ have to include a baseline and the default is it.

How true, Garry. How true

But just one Dan is all I need because he has advised me wisely. As have all you clever people. I'm very happy with my traffic at Kai Tak. I don't think Microsoft ATC are quite so pleased - the number of go-arounds they call for  If I feel sorry for them, I'll move the slider a wee bit :worried:

I can't tell you how much I love this 9dragons scenery. I can't believe these guys have done it as freeware. Anyway, I've installed all the World of AI airline packages for Hong Kong and have diverted all flights from Chek Lap Kok and deleted all the Microsoft aircraft. But I'm still not happy.

Will somebody please explain how all the diverted flights know how to fly the checkerboard approach??????? I can understand them flying the ILS but how do they know to disengage the autopilot and turn right 47 degrees??????? And when they are told to overshoot, like this SIA 747, how do they know to retract the undercarriage????? I mean, just programming the AI to fly all over the world is amazing enough, but these flightplans originally contained nothing about VHHX. I mean, it's magic, isn't it?

Anyway, must go, I've got all this freight to get loaded, fly round in circles and unload it again
