Indeed Joe :cpu: A suitable alternative would be asking 'What is the best pc spec' and then asking 'What's the best I can afford'. The two answers are rarely in the same quadrant of the galaxy!

I have been sitting quietly in the background reading with interest to the fors' and against.....The likes and dislikes....The performance issues and the lack of it......OMG!!!!!! :brick:

Now I'm as just as confused as ever.

I think what it boils down to is the type of system you have....Mine is a P4 3Ghz 2 Mb Ram GeForce 7800GS now this may be enough to run FSX but not enough to run as well as FS9 on parallel settings, equally it would mean having to buy a DVD to install it, OK you may say that it would only cost £20 but it puts the total up to near £60? I think I'll just wait another four years and then see if MS have learnt by their mistakes and bring out a near perfect Flight Sim.....but then again....

Well Steve I can see that Tim just borrowed for a while and left it where he found it ;-) although he left me with only 4200kgs in the tank, where I left it with 32000kgs...

I guess that's the risk of not flying for a long time.... If only I could get the time again.....

I'll get around it sometime shortly I hope, I must not loos my certificate ;-)

Oh dear

TBH Joe.. with a DualCore of that speed, I'm certain you'd see better results from the full prog and SP1 as I guess it's trying to run on only one core and 1.46ghz isn't particularly quick however many times you say it.. dual core or not. SP2 has further enhancements for Vista so although your test has proven the trial version doesn't run well, it's probably not conclusive evidence that the full prog will run the same.

My desktop a dual core 2.6'er
with 4 gig o'ram
and a Nvidia 8800gt
250 gig HD
might very well do it
...... but I don't have a second HD and I willl not sacrifice FS9 at this point

no way no how

Ah well.. that decision has to be yours I'm afraid. Without a second drive on your desktop, I'd certainly not contemplate trying even the demo on there (unless you aim to keep it). A rock and a hard place springs to mind! With an additional drive.. even a USB jobby.. I reckon it would go like something off a shovel on your DT system. Maybe if you drop a hint to a willing relation.. you might get the sim for Xmas

Dunno if I'd forkout to run it on the laptop though

I'll leave that decision to your goodself ;-)
