Hi Dave,

You need to tick the box to download BETAs as it updated almost every week, but he only gets a chance to compile them to the release version about once per year ;)

Okey doh chaps.. thanks :) My version is 1.3 which was the last stable platform and I get enough errors from this one! 8) He who dares Rodney.. he who dares

EDIT: Got the latest bits and they make it almost double the size  To install, do I just drag'n'drop em into the MCX folder and let them overwrite?

EDIT2: Never mind.. I went ahead and threw them in the old folder anyway. Nothing has broken thus far but it's already quite different from what I'm used to. The MCA building at Southampton converted with the latest ver fine. I ended up with some oddly named textures (some had the model name twice) but the model needed them all as I'd a couple of missing bits without. Cool

Hi Chaps :)

I say this is WIP but I don't think I'll ever finish it. It's ok but not as pleasing as Portsmouth..

Every building there is kosha.. no subs or others. There's a total of 46 buildings and 6 ships in that lot. Doesn't look like it does it :| All objects with the exception of 2 default ships opposite the Solent Mills are from 3D Warehouse and converted for use in FSX using MCX. It's a time consuming job recreating a city from scratch and unlike 'proper' models.. some of the sketchup models carry a heavy amount of textures.. despite the drawcalls being pulled on every object (bar one.. it was 7 calls regardless so I left it) There are 5 blocks of flats you don't see on the eastern side of the estuary so the scenery area goes from there to the container terminal in the west and the 2 gasometers in the north. I can run it ok but I dare not face Portsmouth with Hamble and Lee and Southampton in a reasonably straight line. I can add more buildings to Soton though I'm not sure they'd make a whole bunch of difference. Maybe some little sailing boats dotted around the marinas and I think that's about it.. for me.. at this moment

Believe it or not - I've been following this thread with interest :agree: I don't pretend to understand what you clever people are doing but it's very impressive

I just stumbled across an old post on the FTX forum where a Pompey enthusiast has added the FS9 Pompey Highrise scenery to FTX England. He's posted a before and after screenshot which shows quite a good improvement (I think).

It might be of interest to any of you old salts who still have FTX England and want to improve Pompey.

Darn it.. I can't get into that link mate :|

Since I took those shots, I've disabled Soton from FSX  It was an object exercise in what can be done by someone who can't model (me) starting a scenery from scratch with what's available :) In the event.. my system couldn't run it 8) Soton was fine on it's own but with Hamble, Lee, Portsmouth Highrise, Porstmouth Airport and Thorney all running in close proximity, Soton was just too much. I found some other bits I really wanted to add to Portsmouth (as if I'd not added enough already) and in order to do that.. Southampton had to go :(

Since my last shots of Pompey, I've added some really detailed dockyard buildings, Spice Island, Portsmouth sea wall, the D Day museum and Southsea Castle. For good measure, St Helens fort has been added off the IoW plus the Power Station at Cowes  Will post some screenies ;)

Is there any other way to get to that link Ian? *-)

Oh I guess that's the part of the forum where you have to register. You could do that - as a valued FTX customer

Otherwise I should be able to grab the pictures and some words and post them here. I'm off out for a couple of hours and I'll have a go later.

No prob Ian ;) I managed to get into the forums eventually and presumed it was in the screenshot section. Couldn't see it though. Maybe 'wood' and 'trees' :dunno: I'll post a few screenies of my latest Pompey updates in the gallery rather than clog this up again ;)

An interesting little scenario presented itself this afternoon. I thought I'd have a go at adding the hovercraft and ferry files from World of Wight to FSX. Initially, things didn't look too bad then suddenly.. this happened..
Image

As you can see, all the tracks used by the ferries and hovercraft have manifested themselves as 'roads' in the Solent.. albeit wet ones :-O Am I to presume this is why the af2's have to be converted to something else :worried:

Unfortunately, both the SeaCat and IoW ferry AF2's come with baggage so I also have unwanted bits and bobs (luggage and luggage trucks) in the harbour 8) I knew it wasn't going to be simple

Well.. I've given in with these little tinkers but they're far from gone. I've added a hovercraft to Southsea plus 2 Sea Cats and 2 Ferries to Portsmouth along with USS Constitution for good measure. It's starting to get very leery there now! :worried:
