All the old Brit bikes were comparatively well made and I well remember them still going strong in the seventies after many many years with the owner

The Jap bike had lots of chrome and zip but soon fell apart.

The main bearings or big ends soon finished those

The old Brit just purred along day after day

So a superior Brit looked after properly would almost be everlasting.

Looked after properly is the key phrase there Garry. Modern Japanese bikes can take an enormous amount of abuse.

The Triumph needs an oil change every 1,500kms, valve gaps checked etc. etc. My Kawasaki doesn't get touched for 10,000kms and the valves will probably not have to be adjusted in the 40,000kms I expect to cover on it.

Mind you it's the Kawasaki that will be traded for something else in a couple of years whilst a Bonnie is for life.
