I can imagine Laurence Fox and Damian Lewis making reasonably convincing bomber crews. Both are a bit old, but if you wanted someone of exactly the right age (about my age ), you'd probably have to go for an unknown.

PaulK, unfortunately I don't think that would ever come about. On a visit last year I asked if there may ever be a chance of it flying again and was told that it was highly unlikely, the costs would be high but also, by the way they spoke, I got the impression that they do not want to run the risk of anything happening to the aircraft as if a mishap occurred, the Lancaster would be no more and then, with the main attraction to East Kirkby no longer in existence.........what else would replace it?

There is still one other airworthy Lancaster in Canada, they could try to persuade the owners to fly it across here though and use Just Jane as a backdrop as well as for high speed runs.

A cargo ship has just complete filming for some film company.

The wanted a old Spanish galleon so the took the cargo ship and filmed it

They have digitally mapped the cargo ship and then next stage is to swap that with a digital map of a Spanish Galleon and the cargo ship becomes the galleon.

Even if enough Lancaster were flying, to fly them low level would be risky and pointless and so much post shooting work would need to be done to make it nighttime and low in formation.

All the problems of lighting and getting the right shots with the camera ship can be controlled from the outset.

That article dates to late last year. I doubt it has any bearing on the current attempt. Theres been a long running thread over on Key Publishing about possible remakes of the film.

Rather like our own Trident dismantle-transport-rebuild project, its got off to a lot of false starts. I suppose theres no guarantee its really happening this time?

Why oh why do they have to remake such a classic film? I don't think I've ever seen a remake that was a patch on the original.

The original fits in well with the mood

The monochrome is fine for night.

A modern CGI would probably be too clear and sharp for reality.

Michael Redgrave as Barnes Wallace with Richard Todd in the lead is about as good a casting as you can get.

That film is full of atmosphere.

And note the problem with making a whle lot of Lancs flyable is the fact it is a low budget (if you call 50 mill low budget) movie as it was the only way Jackson could keep the yank movie industries messy little hands off the script.
