Classic British Flight Sim

Just a 'heads-up' but if anyone is interested in Train Sim 2016 Steam are providing a free weekend this coming weekend (live now actually) where you can download a limited time version to try it out.

I am guessing that it's not the full version but probably has one route and some rolling stock/locos so that you can get a feel for it.

Yes, give it a try folks. Be warned however - you really do need to go through the learning process to get the most out of it. I'm about halfway through the Academy, which comes with the game, and really enjoying it.

Larry, as said before, I'll get the Settle - Carlisle route, but I'm also going to get this when it's released later this month. For some reason the Britannia sticks in my mind from childhood:

My dad and I used to go to Carlisle station from Abbeytown where my maternal grandparents lived, just to ride on a train and see the steam engines. Can't do it now since Dr. Beeching, but it was a great day out for a little boy. I remember a huge maroon-coloured loco sitting at the platform, and the crew waving to me. Happy days.

The Britannia made a lasting impression on me also, because the then brand new William Shakespeare was exhibited at the Festival of Britain on the South Bank in 1951 , and I was able ( 6 at the time ) to sit in the firebox !
