Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Downloaded and installed. Only had chance for a quick test this evening, but I'm very impressed. Not added anything yet, but out-of-the-box performance seems good, even with the sliders cranked up on an oldish 460 video card.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Mine has only just finished downloading. I downloaded the 10.6 "all-in-one-go" file, which took just over 9 hours with my 3MB/s connection - I banned any other internet use whilst it was downloading!
Now I have to extract it so that I can move it to this PC in 3.8GB bits on my USB stick. What a hassle. Bet it'll be worth it, though!
Unextracting in itself takes my netbook 15 minutes! It's quicker to transfer on the stick than over the network, though, for some strange reason.
Oh, and I got my new e-acoustic bass guitar, today, too.
Christmas has come early!

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
I had to download it twice
Tried the all-in-one first and that got to 10.2gb out of 10.6 then decided it was finished
Downloaded the separate parts second time around, & that went fine.

You have my deepest sympathy, Dave - I know all too well how that feels =
At least you got it in the end, though

Yes, I'm on my second download attempt, too. Yesterday I got to 9.2Gb when my normally reliable and stable broadband decided to disconnect and, try as I might, I couldn't get the download to resume when I'd reconnected.
Today, I've taken the precaution of using a download manager that supports resume and all seems to be going well.
The Tangmere Lightning sim is running on a commercial licence on 1.4 at the moment so I'm evaluating v2 at home to see if it's worth changing (yet). What I'm really looking for is a significant increase in the accuracy of the coastline in our local flying area (Portsmouth - Southampton - IoW) which in 1.4 is extremely poor.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Some of what looks like initial good news chaps. Most of my AI aircraft are versions of DM, Rick etc's early models which were built for FS9 and I was worried these wouldn't work. Safe to say, after an initial few flights I have 748's Vanguards and Argosys all doing there thing. Further more, I've taken the trident up for a very quick spin and the Glass textures behind clouds seems to have been fixed. AI shipping also seems to be working as expected. The only problem I have had was with the VC10, which cause a crash to desktop when I opened up the throttles, and I have a feeling this may be sound related, but will require further investigation. As for the coast lines, these don't "seem" to be any different to FSX. oh... and the Trident is self shadowing! No idea, how, but it is.
Ben.

Having been on the P3D site I cannot see an option for a boxed version which means I'm up the river without the proverbial paddle. A 74MB download last night took 24 minutes.

That's not necessarily the case, Allan.
All you need is the licence key from Lockheed Martin and someone to put it on a disc for you. I've just backed my files up to 3 standard DVDs (they would fit on 2 dual layer discs). Either give someone locally or a mate/relative etc the necessary discs and ask them to download it and write them for you, or ask someone here to send you their back-up, depending on which version you would be buying. Just copy the files to your PC, run the installer and enter your own licence code when it asks - job done.
Mine's the academic version.
I had a quick test earlier and am currently busy setting up my controllers, but I have a feeling my 1GB VGA card is not quite sufficient. Good job I am planning upgrading in February.
The reason I say that is, I haven't changed any of the default settings - just checked them - except for the light effect (can't for the life of me think what it's called - where the sun glare is simulated) switched off - I really dislike that on the PC. Anyway, my aircraft takes about half a minute to render - internal bits appear first, then various panels, control surfaces etc slowly up until the texture is drawn and I'm pretty much ready to go then. I have an nVidia GTX560Ti OC with 1GB of VRAM. When I upgrade I'll get the card with largest amount of VRAM I can afford, as that will be affecting my DCS sims, too.
The thing that's bothering me is the halo effect on the lights in tower view. These are fine in normal external view, but from the tower, they look like just halos, with no light in the centre:

This view looks nice (well, it does in 1680x1050 res, anyway!):

Time to get the add-on collection out and say goodbye to the rest of the week!
PS: Oh look! There's some - dare I say it - white houses!!!
Still, it's in the US somewhere, not the UK - wonder if they have them (Stucko?)

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Any one tried to install VFR Real scenery yet? Despite 3 attempts, I cannot see it.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Got Gen X working last night. Just pointed the scenery library to my FSX install.
