Thanks mate ;)

Ironically, it's not the Portsmouth I know.. much has changed since I left the mob in '89. I went back in 2007 (you may remember the gallon of phots I posted) and couldn't believe how dramatically it had changed :dunno:

I've just converted Portsmouth and Southsea station from a sketchup model and will see if I can add it in your honour and hope meltdown doesn't occur  Pity no one has made Portsmouth Harbour station.. that's the one I really wanted as it helps fill the dockyard area 8)

That's done it..

Main Post Office, P&S railway station and all of Commercial Road shops added. I can still fly around there but it has to be in the microlight to be comfortable

Whoa! How cool is that? And two trains as well. Looks like one of ours going in to the high level from the north and one of Nev's from the south. Although I'm not sure if Nev's allowed to stray from the Weymouth-Waterloo mainline in case he gets disoriented :worried: Anyway, next time I'm there I'll be scanning the sky for microlights

You've done a good job there, Dave. I'm impressed.

Ian :)

I'm sure he'll have something to say about that

The station doesn't sit as well as it might due to MS/Horizon building in a terrain elevation there. Also, I notice a bit of a texture flip which happens sometimes in conversion. FS likes textures of uniform size.. 250x250 say and these models don't conform to that convention. Sometimes you get away with it when drawcalls are reduced.. other times you don't. Still.. it's a nice model. I had a look at the station facade and it certainly brings back memories.. one of the few things not to have changed much over the years :)

Now I've gone down to microlights.. I've a few more FPS I can use up so there's the possibility of yet more buildings. I dunno where I go after the microlight though  Pity Portsmouth Harbour station hasn't been modelled or the buildings on the Hard. I could nip out of the dockyard into the Ship Anson or Ship Leopard then jump on the train (read stagger onto the train) I've a model of the signal box at Pompey I can add too :)

Grab yourself a copy of Instant Scenery V2, download the free conversion tools and Bob's your uncle or.. have a look on Google Earth at your locale and see if anyone has made sketchup models there. If they have.. let me know what they are, I'll download them, convert them for FS and send them to you as a bgl. Walsall is great.. there's St Matthews Church and a couple of blocks of flats! Not even the public loo! That's what happens when you live somewhere uninteresting

Not quite Dave. They also need to be a power of two, so 256x256.

MCX can do the resizing ;)

Cheers George.. the power of 2 is what I meant in reality. It just came out wrong

I still find that some don't convert well though. This of course may be more me than the program or model ;)

While you're here George.. is there a way to separate models from bgl's if there's more than one model contained therein? I want to get Gosport High into FS9 if possible but there are very few bgl's in the zip. Most models appear to be bundled in gosport.bgl. I can get one model out but only one :(

The only way I know is to load the bgl into MCX and export as .3DS, import into GMax and delete the unwanted parts. You will possibly need to re-texture.

Ah.. ok George. I don't know if I want to endure that sort of pain! There are a lot of objects in that bgl so I guess it would take multiple sessions in Gmax/3DS to separate each one. Damn shame but not the end of the world.

As per.. many thks
