Re: Screen lockout..
I don't think IE9 could ever be described as cluttered. A friend of mine came up with a good analogy, google - cheap tat, apple - overpriced bling, IE/FF - thinking mans browser.

It can ... and I did it!Ben Watson wrote:I don't think IE9 could ever be described as cluttered.

I used to prefer IE8 to allcomers but I was very disappointed with the IE9 interface. I know it's a technically superior browser but it doesn't feel it. I find Chrome more intuitive, friendly and cheerful. I guess I'm a cheap tat sort of guy

Are we talking about the same browser? Theres virtually no buttons on it. Had you activated all the menus or added toolbars or something?
Ben.

I've just revisited it, Ben, and you're right - cluttered isn't quite the right word, although I'm struggling to find the right one

I haven't added anything on, in fact I've hardly used it since I installed it. I just use it to check if my websites are working on it. I used IE8 most of the time but quite liked Chrome, but when IE9 arrived I disliked it instantly and found myself using Chrome all the time. I don't like the square tabs, they look unnatural and clunky. It's the menus that seem cluttered and counter-intuitive compared to Chrome's functional simplicity. Things are much easier to find in Chrome and the browser has all the google functions integrated so I rarely have to go into the menu anyway. It seems to know what I'm looking for and the interface is much easier on the eye.
So, although I've always been a Microsoft IE man and have liked each IE version better than the last, IE9 doesn't feel as though it's been designed. It feels like it's lots of bits bolted together whereas Chrome feels as though everything's working together and I just find it a pleasure to use.

May have been developed by a load of acne faced nerds fresh out of uni.Or maybe I am just getting grumpier.Oh I do hope so!. It feels like it's lots of bits bolted together whereas Chrome feels as though everything's working together and I just find it a pleasure to use.

Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!
Re: Screen lockout..
Maybe its just the way I have it set up, but I dont have any menus, I dont use them anymore tbh.
Here's a screenshot of my IE9 (all be it not a full screen)

Re: Screen lockout..
So it is, Strange one George, as even with the meus enabled you seem to have more "buttons" than me

Ben.

Re: Screen lockout..
It is on W7 with the 'Classic' (W2000) theme.
The buttons to the right of the address bar are 'Compatibility view', 'Refresh' and 'Stop'

Ah yes. That illustrates the bit that I dislike most - the tab bar. It doesn't look designed. The search bar is floating in mid-air and the tabs don't even connect to the main frame. The back arrow is much bigger than the forward arrow and the tab bar is forced down a row because it can't sit on the same row as the window control buttons. It works but it looks clunky and not designed. I know it's personal taste but there's absolutely no artistry or style in it. Here's my Chrome window for comparison which looks much more integrated. I know we'll never agree but at least I can finally show you my main area of dislikeBen Watson wrote:Here's a screenshot of my IE9 (all be it not a full screen)
