Sadly the VC has now been reduced to be FSX only...

Hmm..
I read it that the whole ATP package is FS.X only with just a new FS.9 panel made based on this.

Hi guys,
Let me explain why we've done this. With Flight soon on the horizon we've moved to FSX to be better prepared for Flight. From sources we know, Flight is currently exhibiting close to FS9 performance, but with much better graphical and simulation capabilities.
The VC would never have worked in FS9, as we started working with higher resolution textures and higher poly modelling techniques that are 100% incompatible with FS9. I apologize to any of you hoping to fly the VC in FS9, but I can assure you that our FSX & Flight versions will more than make up for it!
Regards,
Jordi Blumberg

Only if capable of running FS.X, which many of us are not.
Flight remains to be seen

Agreed Garry, but to be fair to Jordi, FS9 is now 7 years old and he and his team need to be looking forward.

I have connections, and I can assure you Flight will perform much better than FSX, very close to FS9, if a tiny bit more demanding on those still struggling with FS9 performance.
Indeed Ben, the biggest problem is that FS9 is really a limit on what I and the team can do. We started to find ourselves saying "We can't do that because FS9 won't allow it" or "I like that idea but it would only work in FSX". And when we got positive feedback from our sources on Flight, we decided to make the jump.

The only thing with Flight is that if you don't have a DX11 capable system yet, you'll have to get it. Thankfully I'm going to be able to do it for less than $400 as all I need is Windows 7 and the video card, and both can be gotten for reasonable prices now.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh so if what your saying is true
Flight will perform much better than FSX, very close to FS9
Then all the FSX lovers have been fans of the emperors not wearing any clothes theory....were telling fibs... and worse still they have been trying to kid FS9 users likewise....

The only reason I raised the FS.9 issue was not a failure to move on but a response to the statement that the FS./Fight more than makes up for it.
You either run FS.X or not...if you can't then it makes up for nothing....
I don't care if it runs in FS.9 or not, if there is something I like and it's only FS.X than I just forget it. I just thought the statement a bit strange as it is telling FS.9 users they can't run it but the version they can't run more than makes up for them to not being able to run it

and commented
It is nothing to do with failing to look forward or an attempt to revive the FS.9/X thing again

I'm not quite sure what you mean Garry, but by the time we're done with the ATP, MS Flight, a much better performing simulator will be around. We know it'll be better than anything that's come before, performance, flight dynamics and visually. Although the downside is pretty much no backwards compatibility. If the ATP were to be ready within the month I'd gladly work on converting and exporting it to FS9, as FSX is just not feasible for many. But because the whole team has jobs outside of FS, the time it takes to develop an add-on as in-depth as we can possible create is increased by far. Realistically I wouldn't expect to see our new ATP in the sim till at least late 2011 if not 2012. But the 2D panel and brand new flight dynamics will be compatible with FS9, and will hopefully be released alot earlier than the ATP X.
So basically I was saying that for those of you who can't run FS9, there's an extremely high chance you'll be able to run Flight, which (if everything goes as planned) we'll release the ATP for. And if you decide to sit where you are with FS9, you'll still be able to enjoy flight dynamics made with the help of real ATP pilots and a 2D panel with full functionality. I hope this clears up any confusion
