Hi Folks
Ben -
re: Dreamscapes United Kingdom
It's a huge improvement over the default,
and certainly worth having till Horizon eventually get their act together.
For details,
please see post at - Visualflight forum - NEXTMap® ProMesh United Kingdom (Includes Scotland)
As with all mesh products,
default airports may require a blended flatten to remove possible surrounding cliffs.
Mesh vertical resolution is to nearest 1/4 metre, (not 1/25th as inferred).
so it's not quite as sharp as it might be.
Dean's processing methods have improved since initial release,
and future updates will probably be better.

Thats quite an interesting website! The Airports look quite good, thanks for the link.hinch wrote:Ultimate Terrain doesn't come with mesh, but there are plenty of freeware ones about.
If you're looking at flying in Scandanvia they have some very dedicated guys who have produces loads of top freeware, all photo real airport stuff, most of it can be found here: http://www.flightsim.no/file/FSX/Scenery/Europa/
Also note the side links on the home page for Norway airports and textureart.

To the guys who use photo scenery with no autogen... don't you find the world feels rather flat and boring, especially at low level? Or is there anything in the textures themselves to alleviate this? I've tried turning off autogen in FSX a few times now for the performance boost but I just can't stick with it, anything less than extremely dense and it all starts to look rather bland.
Is photo scenery so much more detailed that you don't bemoan the lack of autogen? Or is it really for those that like cruising up high and not at low level?

Hi Chris..
Put simply.. you get used to it mate. You find you spend more time looking out for landmarks than worrying about how many trees there are. Most airports come with their own trees built-in so while you're there.. at ground level.. you don't notice anything is wrong
The one major downside with the old FS2002/2004 VFRPhoto scenery is that there are no night textures so from dust until dawn.. the UK is in wartime mode. Efforts were made to add things like main roads/motorways (eventually) but the download routine was only for the dedicated simmer who is not phased by things like.. 'before you install this piece of scenery, you need THAT one first'.. which seemed to apply to every free addon I tried. Rick sent me a complete set of the freeware downloads (as complete as he had) and to be honest.. it slowed MY sim down to levels lower than that of normal autogen but there you go.

TBH Chris, if your running GenX (Version 2.0) The photo scenery is so detailed you don't care about Trees. The mesh is very good too, and so your looking for landmarks. When your flying real world, once your up at 3 or 4 thousand feet, the whole place looks 2D anyway, so its more realistic that lego trees all over the place, and with GenX V2.0 you get the night lighting, which, IMHO is too bright, but better than the blitz blackout in FS9

Ben.

Re: Europe scenery / mesh etc
Chris, as Ben says Horizon's Generation X photo scenery is so detailed that it gives the impression of 3d without it actually being so. There is a demo of accurately placed 3d objects for the Snowdonia area that does add quite a bit to the scenery but the problem with autogen (in general) is that placement is very hit and miss and it can completely b*gger up the look of photo scenery. BTW don't confuse Horizon's scenery with scenery that uses satelite image,s they are quite different with the photo scenery being the much better option.

Chris

This may be of interest to some who don't like the unrealistic winters in FS9 and FSX...?
