What if they'd been able to use modern branding and marketing techniques to sell all these renamed classic aircraft?

There was rumour of a secret project, the Westland Whitehall. Apparently the project was scrapped after difficulties encountered with the first prototype. The pilots found it was very unstable particularly in directional control. However hard they tried it would not fly on a steady heading, constantly deviating often wildly at times. Vast amounts of money were consumed by the project at an alarming rate without ever seeing improvements and the project was eventually scrapped. When records of this project were released, another failed project also came to light,the Airspeed Opposition. Remarkably, flight reports and project notes indicate almost identical characteristics were encountered by both aircraft.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they spin-offs of a much larger project, the Lockeed Electorate? I believe this never got off the ground due to the unfortunate weight of apathy in the design.

I think the main problem with the Westland Whitehall was the constant design changes as it sought out the manufacturers misguided needs of overseas customers while almost completly ignoring the home market. :roll:
