HI Kevin

A lot of adware has come up on AVG8

I use Spybot also Adaware

Still scanning 3 hrs 52 up to now

It suggest daily scans buts that's impracticle as it slows the machine up while scanning :-(

Usually it well over fours hours a scan

I agree Gary, that is a long time to scan the PC. Mine took 2 Hours and I thought that was long enough.
There is a setting at the bottom of the Scan Whole Computer window called 'Aditional Scan Settings....' If you click on this, you can select 'Shutdown Computer Upon Scan Completion'. This would at least let you leave the computer scanning when you go to bed.

Hi Kevin

Yes but I live in the one room and the PC going on while I try to sleep is a no no and it may not shut down at the end even if asked to.

Just one of those things

Still going..... 1,103,000 items scanned up til now

OK, that's not going to help then |-) .
My 2 hour scan was for over 1 million files - there is an awful lot that I really must back up and then delete from the hard drive.

Out of interest, I found on the AVG FAQ's page a note about ActiveX components found by AVG from Antispyware programs such as Spybot.
This will explain a lot of the 'infections' which AVG shows.

See item 1198 near the bottom of the page.

It's finished and report no infections despite showing infections it found while scanning

it lists warning and clicking on these give the option of sending to vault or healing.so it is infected :brick: :brick: :brick:

It's either an infection or not

About a dozen Trojens were found.....

TBH all AV software should be free and the creaters of them, well reward by asset stripping the b@rst@rdsthat create this sort of thing

I've wasted most of today on this

If i ever find out who makes this things.........well ....:@ .well :@ :@ ........I won't let them play with my Superfreighter :@ :@ :@

Right...... now to go through that list :)

I only have the current projects I'm working on and a fairly basic FS.9

Of course there are all the reference material as well as the programmes

I only have Default Cessna, the crane, Britannia, Superfreighter, Heron and Vanguard in FS
all other aircraft are taken off

All my work up to Nov last year is off this machine so I can't reduce the amount much.

As to the AV

I went to delete manually and it says they are in the virus vault even though it reports nothing moved there

I really don't know what's what here..seems mighty odd. :dunno:

Hmmmm.....

Or are the 'b@rst@rdsthat create this sort of thing' and the AV software creators one and the same in a self perpetuating cycle of profiteering?

What's that?

Conspiracy theorist :o

Who......Me?

Kevin

Actually Gary, I couldn't agree more.

Microsoft create the vulnerabilities, therefore they should provide free AV from their vast profits.

As it stands it's like buying a car then having to have someone for free or a wage to stand by it all the time in case someone wants to vandalise it.

That would be un acceptable but with computers it seems a different set of rules. :-(

One useful tool if you notice your computer is running slowly and you suspect some rogue program is soaking up CPU cycles is Process Explorer 11.04

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... lorer.mspx

The download link is near the bottom of the page - 1.6 MB

This is Task Manager on steroids and should clearly show what is going on on your system.

I'm having very slow PC because when I try and do things AVG kicks in using from 20-95 percent of the CPU

I have looked and there are a lot of complaints about this and some wanting to go back to 7.5???

Thanks for that link NIgel

I'll give it a go. :)
