I have always been under the impression that aircrew entered the aircraft from the port side of the aircraft - in the video the ladder is secured to the st'bd cockpit sill. Notable exception - the Lancaster, the crew entry hatch is on the stb'd side.
Mounting from the left, so history has it, stems from the days when horses were always mounted from the horse's left side.

Thank you. Never seen those photos before.
I wondered if the starboard ladder is used by ground crew to assist the aircrew with strapping in, the latter having entered the aircraft from aladder on the port side?
I would appreciate any Buccaneer groundcrew comments on the use of entry ladders.

As groundcrew with 208 Sqn in the early 80's i can , with a qualified air , say that the ladder is used to assist pilots getting in and out of said aircraft....

hello, I was with 208 at Honington, late 1982....lived over at Barnham..
yes, ladders were used either side, not both at once and we groundcrew had to perform a delicate balancing/juggling act
from the top step when 'strapping in'; holding 'nigels' crash helmet and nav bag while catching seat safety pins!
