You are quite correct Dave, but is seems arse about face, surely it should be simobjects to
cast shadows
Here is an AI Sea Vixen landing on Illustrious with your setting:

Yes, but the carrier is a simobject as well.
I think with the UK2000 scenery Gary must have made the runways etc as models, therefore the sim thinks the ground is an object rather than terrain.

No, the carrier is a scenery object. The ground at the Xtreme airports is made as a model, but, I thought simobjects were aircraft, ships etc. There is an option for buildings, how does it identify those?

That was early in the morning mate
nice to see the meatbox out. She was always one of my favourites but I think there was a problem with the panel in FSX.

Got me there

Maybe it refers to autogen buildings

At last I've managed to get the animated wind turbines at Blyth to work in P3D:

I don't have those George. Some of the other ones I have are animated and some aren't. I lumped a whole load of objects into a common VFR objects folder so can't tell where the offending ones came from

I hardly got any kip last night so excuse any doofiness.
I've now completely uninstalled both FSX and P3D with the intention of reinstalling both, but using FSX purely for GA flight with UTX and GEX, and P3D with the FTX UK stuff and Australia. Possibly UK on top of FS Global Europe & Africa - which I have yet to even test, but I understand it goes well under FTX.
If FTX goes as badly for me in P3D as it has in FSX, then I won't buy anything else from them again, but I'm hoping, as they mentioned OrbX as a development partner for P3Dv2, that this won't be the case and it will 'fit' much better.
It worries me that the versions offered were v1.00 as I'm sure they have been updated since. Guess I'm going to have to go searching yet again- I really hate shelling out for a product and then having to chase around the web to get it working okay and be sure I'm up to date.
Interestingly, I flew around Anchorage yesterday evening, with UTX and GEX Alaska/Canada installed, and didn't see a single texture block in place of a tree - not one.
Performance was in the mid-teens on medium settings, but when I upped the autogen veg and buildings to very dense, it slowed to single figures (6-7fps). AI traffic was virtually non-existent.
