Hi Guys

I'm trying to resolve the block-instead-of-trees issue that is spoiling P3Dv2 for some of us.

I have spent a lot of time searching for clues this morning - I had a lucky break, when I found that some of the tree blocks were depicting aircraft textures:

Since when, I have been trying to track down exactly which aircraft or folder these aircraft are in. It was an obvious choice to start with AI aircraft and then scenery textures - but instead I started from the first folder in P3D and worked my way through everything. Needless to say, I am going a bit cross-eyed! :$

However, I have now found one of the culprits, and I'm pretty sure the others will be in the same place, but I need help to find out where they came from, as I have installed a number of add-ons since trying the default P3Dv2 and it could be from any of them.

The first file is the brown texture in the picture. It's in the scenery\Global\texture folder and is called GEN_Plane_Schweizer2_orange.dds. Boy, am I glad for DXTbmp, else this would have taken much longer.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea or know where this comes from? Could you guys take a look in your own texture folders and see if you have it, too - then I can see if it's a default texture or an add-on?

Thanks.

I'm still looking for the blue aircraft, but I will bet it's in the same folder. Why P3D is choosing to show these textures instead of trees is a mystery, though.
I'm sure they must know it already, but I'll pop over to their forum this evening and see if it's been mentioned.

On with the search! B)smk

Sometimes autogen tree textures are replaced with random textures:

What I do is to set the Texture Resolution to "very Low", accept, then reset it back to "Ultra":

In fact I do it as a matter of course when starting P3D.

Note, I use Treescapes, but it should apply to any autogen tree textures.

That particular texture is off the default 'Sailplane' JD. Why that one is being called instead of a tree texture is anyones guess :dunno:

It's a known problem, check the LM forum.

Yup - thanks, guys - I was going to do that this evening. There's so much stuff on those forums and the search function generally returns several hundred topics that have nought to do with what you want (as I'm sure you've all experienced yourselves!).

Thanks for the tip, though, George, think you might have mentioned that before, but I have been suffering from data overload recently - not just with P3D, and trying to remember everything is becoming a challenge to my fading noddle! :S

There seem to be quite a lot of aircraft tectures in the Scenery\Global\Texture, that are left over from FSX. As far as I can see, these aircraft are not present in the SimObjects\Airplanes folder. I searched the whole Prepar3D V2 folder for'Schweizer2'and the only files found were those in the Scenery\Global\Texture folder.
It may be that these textures are not required in P3Dv2, so (at your own risk) you could cut and paste them into a folder outside of P3Dv2 to see if this cure the problem. If they are required, you could then replace them.

Regards

Kevin

For me, this only seems to happen with summer textures.
If, at the start screen, I press the “reset to system time” button the problem does not arise.

They are required by Scenery\Global\Scenery\vehicles_aircraft.bgl

I think any action which causes a re-load of the autogen textures will suffice.
