Several photos at Airliners. net including:

There is an AI paint in this scheme, but not the model that you have been painting recently.

If you don't find time, I'll get around to it one day :lol:

I've seen one in person - but it's been somewhere near 35 years! I still remember that sound though - a metalic ring combined with a high-pitched scream! Long before it was called Piedmont Triad Int'l Airport, GSO had this little terminal with an observation deck directly above the boarding gate. I remember seeing my grandparents off from that deck and the YS11 flown by Piedmont Airlines. AFG has a great model of the plane and a very nice sound pack as well. I've tried other Dart sound packs, and this is the only one that really takes me back to that day on the roof of the airport!

@Tom

The AFG one now seems to be released as an update on Avsim, etc. rather than at AFG.

It is the one that Alan has been repainting, so maybe he knows why.

@Alan

Mid Pacific seems to have been forgotten in the repaints, particularly since they owned 22 YS-11s. They were not around for long but I happened to see 10 of them in 1983 so they have stuck in my memory.

I dont know why afg`s web site as not been updated with the new YS-11 V2.7,i fell in love with the afg YS-11 v2.5a for fs9,ever since i realised,you had to watch those engine temp`s,or you would do permanant damage to them,and you could not just jump in and takeoff,without the help of the manual,and i recomended these aircraft to the VA i fly for.
This is also the reason i like ricks hs748/780.
And i have yet to savour the delights of dm`s other aircraft but i do like is vc10,but turbo-prop aircraft are my main interests
I only started repainting fs9 aircraft just over a year ago,when all the VA management decided to leave,so when a member took over the lead role,to run the VA,i started to learn how to do the repaints in the VA colours,and i had to make a paintkit for the YS-11.
Esa who designed the model got to see some of the repaints,and asked me to do the updated V2.7 repaints,and the rest is history. :smile:

The model's absolutely brilliant, but the "ultra" reallism doesn't suit my taste for flight simming. The one part that will always be on my system is still that Dart sound pack. I use it for quite a few planes, Dart-powered or otherwise. A friend of mine even tells me that the Starship owned by Burt Rutan flies over his home, and he's using the AFG Dart sounds for Mike Stone's version. He says they're nearly a perfect match!

Just caught up with this thread

Most of Piedmonts YS11s were taken over by Pinehurst and converted to
freighters operatingm for ABX - somewhere in Atlanta I have a photograph taken at Hartsfield in the late 70s which shows

PI YS11a
Southern Martin 404
Air South DC3
Eastern Electra
and CV580 - I cant remember whose it was but it may have been
Mohawk

Ill get Mum to dig around and send it - if she finds it Ill post the thing

NOT British (except for the Darts on the YS11's) but interesting non the less as it was taken on the A pier at the old "Green Terminal" at Hartsfield

Amazing the only bit of the original terminal at Atlanta that still exsists is a
spur of I85 that was once the main terminal entrance - it basically goes nowhere anymore just joins the Delta HQ to the Interstate
