I added Nick's "All Wet" and "Prop Dust" addons to give better hovering effects and that's the only change I feel it needs. The only question I have is why the autopilot only works for heading hold at all speeds. If I attempt to use altitude hold or VS hold I instead get a pitch lock which means that I have to set my cruise speed and attitude before activating the autopilot unless I slow the helo to something like 60 knots and bring the power off that much. It's not a bit deal, but I was wondering why this is. If it's realistic that way, then great, I'll leave it be. If it's something else, I'll tinker with it a bit and see if I can't get it to my liking.
The instructions for the autopilot can be found here:

The only helicopter I have experience of using an AP is an AS350 (Squirrel) . With that autopilot you fly to the altitude, speed and attitude you wish to maintain then select the AP...so I guess the Antti Pankonen autopilot is pretty accurate.

I guess I wasn't clear -

I use this AP gauge all the time on Helicopters equipped with an AP. It is a full function and does not have a speed limitation on it unless the [Autopilot] section in the Aircraft.CFG is modified in such a way as to prevent the AP from being able to manipulate the controls in its normal way (i.e. full authority). With the Wessex model, the AP does not have the same authority as it does with the MH-53M which I use, hence my question as to whether or not the Wessex flight model was designed to limit the authority of the autopilot to replicate real-world AP limitations.

OK Chris, I'm with you now.
As far as I'm aware the Wessex NEVER had an autopilot. We included one to make the flying a little more versatile..eg people can 'enjoy' the scenery or concentrate on IFR etc. Because the Wessex is old technology we wanted to keep the autopilot functions to a minimum so users still had to fly it.. once they had it under control then they can let the autopilot maintain that attitude.
It's your toy now tinker, play...and enjoy!!!
(Purists should really comment out the Autopilot lines in the panel.cfg)

Thanks Jim. That answers my question.
