There might be more, but I wouldn't know. Glass cockpit is definately not calssic... Thats why you only have to make the 146's ... the RJ's don't count.

Hi DM

I think there are new fancy wingtips and plastic bits.

I think it probably has a computerised coffee maker unlike the Nimrod's tea pot

I think the J (C.4) has a 6 bladed prop on it instead of the original style.

..bit of research later... it also has new engines: Allison AE2100, and a HUD.

But it's still a Herc!

The 'J' is quite a bit more 'trick' than it's earlier relations.. mucho different engines and props.. digital engine management.. 30kts faster as well as the aforementioned glass cockpit mit night vision bits. Size is pretty much the same though

When I see "J"s on circuits they just don't seem to sound right. :huf:

Looks like a FS model with the wrong sound-pack......too puny for such a portly beast.

May be different inside.

The J-model is actually using the same engine as before (well... a new version of the old engine, even though it has a new "modern" name). The difference is the props (6-blade Ham-Stan Scimitar props similar to what's on the Do-328 and BAe ATP, just larger). That's why the sound is different. The AE2100 is still a good-old Allison 501D but with FADEC instead of the original Temp Datum computer to make it a bit more fuel efficient and a bit more reliable, but it's the same proven design that it's always been.

But, at least it's not the re-propping of the C-2 Greyhounds with 8-blade Scimitar props. That is an odd sound compared to the old 4-blade Ham-Stan paddles that powered them forever.

<--Arriving late as usual

If we are referring to the Lockheed aircraft that flew the year i was born
its a classic - If we are talking about the plastic herc that gained fame
by extending the parking lots at Lockheed Marietta (The prototype J
crashed into a little wood beside US41 inside the Marietta complex -
Lockheed made the burnt out area a parking lot (Where the hell do I get
all this trivia from??) Its not even a real C130 just bits that look like one
IMO

I love Hercs. Yes it is a classic although the J is a bit too new for me. As a cadet I spent hour and hours doing circuits around Lyneham. I love the buggers!

A smoky Herc is a classic. I don't mind the Js, but I much prefer the hands on approach to flying (which you're bound to get with the E/H/K, etc). Too much glass in the cockpit!
