If this link is down, FS weather is down. Simple as that.
But use FSMetar.exe as suggested by John and me, and don't care if that server is on- or off-line ;-)

Indeed. The URL is in your fs9.cfg file.
I invested in FS Meteo yesterday, not the cheapest of add-ons
considering it is just a utility, but I certainly won't look back.
And it has the ability to connect to a choice of FS weather servers
so outages should be easily overcome.
Funny how I just couldn't live without some decent (or should I say
bad) weather. :o)

Frankly I can't see why anyone would pay good money for a product, when there is a perfectly smooth working utility available absolutely for free...
FSMetar.exe read you current placement in FS and seeks for any available metar stations NOAA/IVAO or VATSIM in the vicinity.
I've NEVER experienced it failed. not once.
Anyone to his one I guess....

FSMeteo is a
good program John so I suppose I can join the club.. twice over in fact as I also have ActiveSky
I tried the freeware prog Dan and didn't get on with it.

No no by all means, anyone to his own I was merely pointing out that there ARE good freeware out there...no offence to anyone who buys whatever they want....may that be ActiveSKy RealWeather FSMeteo or what ever they are called.
I wasn't trying to offend anyone, that's normally not my business, I'll leave that to others... Sorry if you felt I was offending you.

Dan, there's one thing that the freeware module doesn't do that Activesky does - systemic integration. I can get full-scale weather systems (things like squall lines, fronts, etc.) while all the other programs only display the closest weather station weather. Most exciting approaches I've done in the sim using ActiveSky were a couple into different airports that were undergoing a frontal passage at the time of the approach and the quickly changing conditions that came with it.

Ive just given this FSMetar a go and it seems to be quite good.
Amazing how much I missed having "real" bad weather
I could have just set it manually to be rubbish but it wouldnt have felt right

One useful thing about FSMetar is that you can start it before you start FS...Then you can get a METAR for where you are going to start, then on the basis of that you can start REP and place the Dot in Dry, Wet or Snow...Then you can start FS9 :dance:
I'm not too sure about the upper winds etc with FSMetar...I rather like the default Real Weather for that...Anyone seen it back on line yet? :roll:
