What really anoyed me about the machine I am using here is it happened 18 months into a three year warenty

The shop I bought it from sold out to new management and the staff created their own.

Neither they of the original shop would honour the gaurentee as they said it was not bought from them

The shop because it was not us then and the new shop with all the old people that actaully recieved my money said you didn't technically buy it from here.

And before everyone says that's wrong...where I live the law does not support the consumer and I could do nothing.

And I know they should repair and clain from ASUS but they both say they only do warenty work on machines they sell.

That's very annoying Garry :curse: To say that 'technically.. you didn't buy it from there' is one thing but the reality is that 'actually' they had your money :poke:

If, as Chris suggests, the mobo has to be removed to change the fan on Asus boards, then it certainly isn't a 2min job. I've just taken the side cover off one of my main two systems and it doesn't have a fan on the chipset (it has a heatsink the size of Bognor!!) so I can't be much help I'm afraid. I have to acknowledge that not all boards are put together the same so it could well be that your particular board has to be removed to change the chipset fan. B1oody inconvenient if that is the case

Besides Dave....what's wrong with a bit of old fashiond courtesy and goodwill.........still that's how it waspure greed.

On this particular PC with the fault.....the boad is deep into the machine and difficult to see how I could get my clumsy mitts on it anyway without a degree of dis-assembly.

So it is down to them to come up with an answer and with the help and support of you guys I can tell them what's wrong and they will have to give me a straight answer to a direct question

I was fed up with them avoiding issues at my expense.

So I wanted to know what this was and if I could fix easily I would or know what it was for them to do.

And as mentioned before...if....as is likely, this happens again I can perhaps do it myself.

I have learned a lot today from the respondees to this thread.

Thanks to all of you

Garry

BTW no worries Eddie .......I have more lined up soon including more Vanguards and could at a push do them on here although most of the stuff I need is on the other PC

Not good news - search Google for "A8N-SLI Deluxe replace fan"

The Zalman passive cooler is what I fitted to my Gigabyte board - fiddly to fit but worked ok.

This site suggests contacting Asus for replacement fan because of 3 year warranty: :dunno: but 2 weeks for them to supply.

And this one confirms CB's comment about removing motherboard

But doing this every 3 months :tuttut: If you have to take the motherboard out, looks like fitting an alternative is best.

Good result

Because of the help of you guys I was able to tell them what the problem was so they could not avoid it

I phoned them up and they said to bring it in

The bearings were starting to fail on the Northbridge.

All under waranty.

They had no boards in stock but ordered one while I was there.

It will be down prob Mon

They will fit it straight away then.

The board does need to be removed and they are no going to replace the fan but the whole board and send the old one back to ASUS.

Only snag is my current work is on that PC but that's life.

Thanks again to everyone for helpng me get the right result.
