There is a major difference of opinion here @ CBFSIM compared to the likes of the Avsim forums.

The reason for that is that most of us here have either worked or do work in aviation or if we don't then we have a great deal of knowledge on the subject.
Avsim may also have similar individuals but I would happily bet that the knowledge and experience here far outweighs what they have there, hence them being happy with FSX and us not.

Does that make sense? Anyone agree?

On here it is probably more widely looked at as a simularion rather than the wider field who see it as a game.

CBs Correct - because of the extremly high level of experience and knowledge, we tend to be a little more a/. skeptical about so called
improvements, and b/. as Garry said we tend to look and compare
FS with real world experience and commerical sims. The facts are that
FS's ATC function is and will probably continue to be a POS, and that
the aircraft modeled still do NOT bear any resemblance to the real world.
And YES Im aware of space constraints, and that the placement of animals and the like seem out of place and a waste in the context of a FLIGHT simulator. The end piece to all this, is very simple IF MSFS
produced realistic flight models the addon community would be out of business, if they produced ACCURATE world models the scenery folks would be out of business....but they dont - they produce a product which
has huge errors in it and sell it - the infamous Arkansas Hole, the various
odd scenery anomalies that seem to have been missed by all of MSFS's
programmers AND the much vaunted army of Beta testers (I found another 'hole" the other day theres an airport on the eastern end of Java
that sits in a 5000 foot pit.......funny dont remember seeing THAT IRL
so before those of you who seem to pop out of the woodwork anytime
anyone dares criticise MSFS think about theyre marketing campaign
-- IF its "As real as it gets" then they should take the time and effort
to get it right and not just shuffle off another "update" as a NEW and improved Flight sim

OK IM off my soap box....I know where my hat and coat are :-#

You do talk some cr@p Chris and I try very hard not to take it too seriously. However, make a suggestion that I'm making ignorant comments again and you will be getting your coat matey

As I said earlier and what has been commented on since, we will have to wait and see won't we. I know someone who has a beta (and no.. it's not me either) and he has reported a few nice touches though pure eye-candy but the shots I've seen don't appear to be a great deal different to what we currently have. They're not the same and I wouldn't expect them to be!!! DON'T be so bloody naive as to expect that what M$ are showing is NOT their best shot. No company in their right mind would 'purposely' show inferior shots, least of all M$.
You mention that the graphical improvements will come with DX10 (which you say they don't even have yet) and that we here (the royal we) spend too much time being concerned with the LOOK of the sim. How are M$ writing code into the sim to take advantage of DX10 when as you say, they don't even have DX10 yet!! Sorry matey but the LOOK of the sim, that is the whole effect of what you are seeing IS important to us here (including me!!) otherwise we'd all run it with our monitors switched off

Many buffalo pass this way me thinks.

Dave -

First, re-read my statment and the usage of the word ignorant. I still don't understand why ignorant is like a 4-letter word in many circles. By definition it's NOT a negative word, only a discriptive one.
ig·no·rant Audio pronunciation of "Ignorant" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gnr-nt)
adj.

1. Lacking education or knowledge.
2. Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake.
3. Unaware or uninformed.
In my context, ignorant falls under the third meaning. Your statement was "unaware" or "uniformed" of the facts as you made a statement that "many of us will not see anything as good as the preview shot's without a major overhaul of our systems so please.. give us a break" when that information isn't available for you to form that opinion or statement.

Secondly, MS has said that the screenshots they've shown aren't the best of what they have as they were taken in an ALPHA build of the sim and they've done a lot of refining since. It's in their blogs and in their interviews with several of the media outlets, so I'm not being naive, I'm reading very carefully. As for DX10, again, they've said several times in interviews and in their blogs that they have not received DX10. That is why they will be releasing a DX10 patch when it is released along with VISTA. FSX is built around the DX9 engine at this time and a DX10 graphics engine is being developed in paralell to be released once they receive the final verson of DX10. The primary reason for the delay in release of VISTA is issues that are delaying DX10 and the need for MS to give developers time to make adjustments to their programs once the final DX10 tools and specifications are released to them.

You seem to continually miss the point.

The most recent point was :-#

Or at least change the tone and stop talking down to folks

And what do you do..try and prove that all along you alone are right, and everyone else is wrong because they fail to understand your superior knowledge of everything.

Oh dear.....Oh dear......Oh dear!!!! :worried:

This thread and the many opinions written certainly has raised my eyebrows.....The responses given can be likened to viewing or reading a brochure on a new product be it a car or domestic appliance and coming to a conclusion without first waiting to see a demonstration when it comes out onto the market. Rather likened to the slatings given to Skoda cars in the early years.......Now look how far they have progressed.

Before any-one has a go just look back to the times when FS9 was about to be brought out onto the market...........Now many have already said that they are happy with it and will stay as they are......Be honest....Did you say the same for 2002? as the only difference with FS9 were a couple of changes to Air Traffic and scenery and graphics....Oh sorry, just realised.......a few more aircraft added, but then again, MFS have not produced the most heart stopping and pulse racing aircraft
around......have they!!

What will it be for me? Well hopefully should have a new computer by then with Vista.......I will watch out for the inevitable downloads onto various Forums of screenshots and videos of this new flightsim and only afterwards will I then decide....To buy or not to buy!!.....until then...I will keep an open mind and wait!!!!

Sorry guys, I posted this thread with the wrong heading, it should have read

Light blue touch-paper and retire to safe distance

But at the end of it and after much deliberation and a respectable amount of time, I'm sure that most of us will probably migrate to FSX :-#
