I was going to try and be mysterious by just mentioning Fruit Salads and then vanishing, but I can't resist it!

They were 4 a penny in my day as were Black Jacks. And there were also things called 'Hobos' as well - not to mention Flying Saucers and Jelly Snakes.

Maybe we should start a Classic British Sweet Forum - to be a 'guru' you'd have to be a guy who's made some new type of chewy sweet and shared the recipe with the members.

And your ranking would be based on how many Black Jacks you could eat in 10 minutes! Anyone with less than 4 teeth and/or who clocked over 25 stone would automatically be a moderator ...
